Investment Analyst required for Global Emerging Market Equity team
Guardian Capital, a 50 year old Canadian institutional investment management business with C$40bn under management, is looking for an equity analyst to join its Global Emerging Market Equity team in London.
The team currently comprises four experienced and successful investors supported by a risk manager. The approach is to make long only investments in high quality, sustainably growing companies across the emerging markets. The portfolios are benchmark agnostic and turnover is extremely low, reflecting a long term holding period.
High return on invested capital, low balance sheet leverage and a sustainable competitive advantage are among their key investment criteria.
One of the incumbent managers is due to retire and therefore, the Company is now looking to add an Equity Research analyst, who will assist the Fund Managers with stock selection and portfolio management.
This will entail the analysis and identification of potential investments, through stock, sector and market research, and will include the visiting of companies and their management.
The analyst will also work on the construction of financial models, financial analysis, and portfolio management issues.
Emerging markets experience is not necessary. Analytical skill is the key selection criterion. The successful candidate must be a self-starter able to demonstrate a capacity to work in a small team and will have the following characteristics:
(a) 2-3 years’ experience gained in the buy-side, sell-side, investment banking, management consultancy or accountancy professions.
(b) strong financial modelling skills
(c) strong written and verbal communication skills
(d) sense of humour
Candidates will need to demonstrate analytical skills ideally working towards a CFA qualification or similar. Language skills would be an advantage.
This is a unique opportunity to join a compact team with clear ambitions to grow its franchise.
