  • The role is available at Analyst level

What you'll do

In Traded Market Risk our responsibility is to identify, measure, monitor, analyse and report on the trading books' risk positions in the face of various market outcomes, making sure that risk remains within appetite. It's a key role in ensuring that our shareholders' capital is deployed correctly across market activities, and so crucial to the continuing strength of the bank.

As an analyst you'll contribute by taking responsibility for various daily market risk management activities, including reviewing risk reports and limit utilisation, investigating and escalating any breaches, and preparing and documenting limit sanctions. You'll make sure that the market risk systems hold an accurate representation of our risk profile, and contribute to ensuring the control framework is operating effectively.

Other key aspects of your role will include:
  • Reviewing trading strategies, including hedging, and challenging any risk taking outside appetite, escalating any unusual trading activity
  • Reviewing trade proposals and non-standard deal documents, making recommendations on approval
  • Helping to develop risk appetite and implement a market risk limit framework
  • Developing detailed knowledge of financial markets, business' trading strategies, and key P&L drivers
  • Contributing to designing, implementing and documenting stress testing methodologies; reviewing front office trading models
  • Reviewing the ongoing operation of the VaR model, Profit & Loss Approximation Function rules, and new market data mappings

The skills you'll need

We're looking for someone with clear interest in the financial markets and an understanding of market dynamics, products and the associated risks, ideally with experience in a market risk environment at an investment bank.

You'll need a 2:1 or higher degree plus a postgraduate qualification in a numerate discipline, such as Mathematics or Statistics, and will have excellent technical problem solving and analytical skills.

We'll also expect:
  • Knowledge of traded products and their risk characteristics
  • An understanding of market risk management controls and techniques, including key risk metrics such as VaR, PV01 and CR01
  • Strong Excel skills at user level
  • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and concisely, and to produce high quality risk information

While not essential, a relevant professional qualification - such as CFA, PRMIA or Securities Institute Certificate - would be welcome, as would an understanding of the regulatory framework, and awareness of accountancy, credit risk and regulatory capital rules
