Job Description Summary

A role has arisen in the GCT Finance team for a Technical Business Partner with around 2-7 years PQE. We are looking for a knowledgeable colleague, with deep analytical skills who can bring their skills and experience to the role, owning the Front Office relationship and issues for their books, performing variance analysis, producing commentary and communicating this to the GCT Front Office clearly. They will need to have a keen eye for detail, accuracy and be deadline orientated, while fitting into a collaborative environment within the team.

The colleague will be responsible delivering influential insight, advice and exercises control through operating as a functional specialist covering including but not limited to Balance Sheet Optimisation (Group Hedging), Rates desk for GCT and XVA desk.

GCT Finance Technical Business Partner

Group Corporate Treasury (GCT) supports the Group Board in developing and maintaining the appropriate balance sheet structure to meet the Board's desired Capital, Funding/Liquidity and Structural Market Risk appetite whilst providing the appropriate flexibility to accommodate the Board's Strategic plans.

The GCT Finance department supports the delivery of insightful management information to senior executives so that the GCT businesses (Group Capital Management, Funding & Liquidity, Balance Sheet Management etc.) deliver on their strategic aims.

They will need to have a keen eye for detail, accuracy and be deadline orientated, while fitting into a collaborative environment within the team.

The colleague will be responsible delivering influential insight, advice and exercises control through operating as a functional specialist covering including but not limited to Balance Sheet Optimisation (Group Hedging), Rates desk for GCT and XVA desk.

The colleague will be part of a team that act as the point of contact and interface for finance related queries raised by the business desk through liaising and co-ordinating between finance and business desks, using commercial and technical insight to provide enriched analysis on desk performance and findings across the business. They will also prepare ad-hoc analysis and MI utilising existing knowledge and processes coupled with product and coverage knowledge in all areas to source data, prepare and present ad hoc reports on defined subject matter within defined deadlines and assist / partner as required.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide guidance and influence on business activity.
  • Independently challenge the business desk on their performance and activities.
  • Decision support through provision of insightful management information and value-adding information.
  • Provide technical insight and industry knowledge to the GCT business areas.
  • Use existing knowledge and contacts to source data and provide high level information on demand and deep dive analysis into defined areas of focus.
  • Remediate finance related issues arising. Co-ordinating subject matter expertise when required.
  • Supporting business transactions, providing accounting advice and support as appropriate.
  • Work closely with the desks to understand their trading strategies and risks.
  • Building and actively managing relationships with stakeholders.


Knowledge, Competency and Skill Requirements:

  • Self-starter who is proactive and self-motivated.
  • Demonstrate leadership and ability to manage others.
  • Team player with a collaborative working style applied across different businesses and locations (e.g. remote or offshore teams).
  • Strong stakeholder management with ability to operate across all levels of staff using different communication channels.
  • Experience in key areas of strategy and planning, management reporting and history of ability to analyse and interpret data into a commercial and usable format to assist in making commercial business decisions.
  • Fast learner, being able to flex and adapt to working across different business desks with different teams.
  • Excellent understanding of banking & treasury business and their key performance drivers
  • Strong understanding across of Treasury activities (including but not restricted to Money Markets, Liquid Asset Portfolio, Intergroup and divisional funding and securitisations)
  • Strong understanding of market and banking/financial services industry environment (commercial awareness)
  • Ability to articulate complex financials to a wide range of stakeholders and use this to influence decision making at senior levels


Qualification, Certification and Education:

  • Accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or similar).
  • Other finance qualification(s) are desirable (i.e. CFA, IMC, ACT)
