UK Client Service Group

The UK Client Service Group is responsible for managing the firm's relationships with its UK Institutional clients made up largely of DC and DB pension funds.

The function contains 39 staff members responsible for managing the firm's relationships with over 750 UK Institutional clients who invest circa £50bn with the firm.

The increasing complexity and demands of our DB business together with the forthcoming retirement of a senior member of the team has created an opportunity for an experienced Client Relationship Management professional to join the team to manage a portfolio of strategically important client relationships.

The role will report directly into the Head of UK and Ireland Institutional Clients.

Role Summary

We anticipate that the successful candidate will have significant experience in Institutional client relationship management.

The primary focus of this role is for the successful candidate to retain and develop a portfolio of existing strategic client relationships, some of whom are intermediated by investment consultants whilst others are best described as Independent buyers. Candidates will have amassed significant knowledge of the UK institutional DB market and associated investment market knowledge including an acute awareness of the current trends influencing the decisions that UKDB pension schemes are currently facing.

It is critical that the successful candidate is capable of interacting with the most senior decision makers inside this business, within the allocated portfolio of Clients and the Advisory firms with whom they work.

Key Responsibilities

• A team player with the ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues across the business. In particular within the immediate UK institutional business, who have the responsibility for the maintenance and development of large existing DB Pension Scheme client relationships. Acting as a mentor to more junior staff members across the UKI business.

• Proactively manage and develop relationships with key decision makers within clients their Investment consultants, Actuaries and where applicable Professional trustees to provide a high quality day to day client service across your client portfolio and maximising the longevity of our relationship with the client and by broadening the range of services that are provided.

• Attain a clear understanding of each client's requirements operating in a pro-active manner designed to anticipate and meet identified needs creating future opportunities for the firm. Includes building, maintaining and executing on Strategic Account Plans.

• Maintain and apply up to date strong Investment and Pensions market and regulatory knowledge. The candidate should be well versed in all investment areas. Deeper technical knowledge around Private Assets would be desirable.

• Attendance at regular existing mandate review meetings, business development/exploratory discussions and new business pitches as and when required.

• Working with the Global Strategic Solutions Team, Alternative Sales Unit and DC Team , providing input into our Clients' investment proposition and input into the creation of relevant materials and messages, ensuring written materials, reports and presentations are clear, fair and comply with regulations

• Support and participate in client and industry hospitality and training events.

• Ultimate responsibility for ensuring that any client mandate changes are effectively communicated and executed , that all associated legal documentscorrectly reflect the Client's requirements and investment brief.

• Primary responsibility for ensuring that all on boarding requirements and procedures of the firm associated with the sales process have been correctly implemented e.g KYC, AML

• Ensure that all CRM systems are maintained accurately in a timely manner with up to date client information

• Ensure all client data amendments are processed accurately and in a timely manner, also ensuring that all records required for FCA, the Inland Revenue and internal compliance are obtained and kept securely as appropriate.

Person Profile / Essential Skills

• Demonstrable DB Pensions and investment market knowledge with ability and evidence of the ability to apply this knowledge to address clients needs and challenges

• Evidence of an ability to nurture strong personal relationships with clients and key members of the Investment Consultant and Professional Trustee community.

• Significant awareness of competitor propositions and wider market trends in DB Investment strategy. Ability to identify DC opportunities from within your portfolio of clients.

• Strong communication skills - demonstrable ability to communicate verbally or in written form detailed and complicated concepts coherently and confidently to key stakeholders.

• Confidence to question existing/proposed strategies and input meaningfully into a clients strategy discussions

• Confident entrepreneurial style - ability to assess and prioritise a multi asset client value proposition in a thoughtful and effective manner to create business opportunities via an existing book of clients

• Strong personal presence, excellent interpersonal and influencing skills. Flexible and adaptable working style; persuasiveness and negotiation skills of particular importance.

• A proactive can-do attitude and experience of taking responsibility and delivery of projects/initiatives

• Sees the value in pro-actively seeking change in order to advance the business. Challenges the status quo with new ideas and approaches that could improve existing methods

• Resilient and strong character with the ability to manage multiple demands in a fast paced environment

• An ability to plan, organise and prioritise own workload and manage expectations of key stakeholders. Would be expected to work autonomously.

• Graduate calibre, IMC and/or CFA or equivalent
