Role Purpose
  • To support HSBC advisors in their regions by providing expert knowledge of the Group's discretionary services and AM EU wealth propositions to HSBC clients. To build strong connections with advisors and their clients helping to retain and grow assets under management.
  • Build strong relationships with Sales management teams in designated region; provision of feedback to DWM management.
  • Support and promote discretionary services aligned to Global Standards, asset management target operating model and HSBC's behaviour and values


Key Accountability's

Impact on Business
  • Develop relationships with and support HSBC advisor regions to support the PCM to promote discretionary services to prospective clients.
  • To support HSBC advisers in the ongoing servicing of their existing clients to deliver high retention rates
  • To support the development of HSBC advisers and network in the understanding of HSBC discretionary services and identification of new opportunities
  • Manage costs in accordance with HSBC Global Asset Management poliicy
  • Involvement with extra areas of responsibility to support and enhance broader business
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with sales management team; provide feedback to management
  • Exhibit expected HSBC employee behaviours

Leadership & Teamwork
  • Proactively manage own performance in accordance with firm's performance management culture.
  • Work proactively with others (including mentoring etc where appropriate) for benefit of team and broader business. Team approach required to allow focus on area of specialisation.
  • Develop strong understanding and promotion of Premier Discretionary Management Service (PDMS).
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with HSBC RBWM advisors to discretionary services. Identify senior personnel in HSBC IFA network to enhance and strengthen relationship.
  • Ambassadorial role to support and drive business forward aligned to AMG target operating model and HSBC values

Major Challenges
  • Have sound understanding and working knowledge of HSBC structure and services. In depth discretionary investment knowledge and understanding of HSBC investment policy and process.
  • Demonstrate successful interaction with HSBC RBWM Advisor network and understanding of practices and HSBC process; support HSBC advisers in managing their client relationships and successfully presenting to prospective clients. Build and maintain strong relationships with senior RBWM sales management team.
  • Evidence sound understanding of the changing regulatory environment especially with regard to suitability, TCF and FCC. Demonstrate alignment with HSBC's behavioural and conduct values.


Role Context
  • The role sits within the UK Discretionary Wealth Management (DWM) division which supports the Retail Bank's discretionary services to HNW clients (approx £350k - £3m investable assets). DWM has a team of dedicated discretionary investment specialists.
  • The DWM business is part of HSBC Global Asset Management (UK) Limited.
  • This role is regionally based to embed discretionary investment specialist knowledge in regional RBWM teams and their underlying clients. Preference will be for individuals willing to operate in one of our four key regions (North, Central, South and London). A team approach is expected allowing individual specialisation of role to deliver consistent and high level of service to RBWM advisor network and clients.


Role Dimensions
  • Support UK Discretionary Wealth Management division to promote discretionary services.
  • Senior Discretionary Investment Specialists will be typically responsible for 150-250 clients.
  • Senior Discretionary Investment Specialists will be expected to support the DWM management team where required
  • Act as ambassador for DWM management within RBWM sales management team within specific region; feedback to DWM management team.

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
  • Professional qualifications to allow role to be carried out. CISI Diploma or Chartered Wealth Manager qualification required, however significant experience in similar role with Private Client Investment Advice and Management paper of CISI diploma (or CFA level 3) plus the regulatory module of either the IMC or CIM may be considered. Ability to demonstrate compliance with regulatory (especially FCC) requirements.
  • Solid post qualification experience working at senior Discretionary Investment Specialist level, managing private client relationships and advisor and network engagement. Experience of working regionally under central management approach preferred.
