Department Overview:

The Fund and Asset Manager Rating Group is focused on providing investors with timely, prospective and informative ratings and related research on the asset management industry. The group's activities are wide ranging, with a primary focus on rating money market funds and associated cash management products such as ultra-short duration bond funds. The group also assigns qualitative ratings to investment managers and rates securitisations of private equity funds. The group is part of the wider Non-Bank Financial Institution Rating Group.

The Role:
We are looking for a French speaking analyst to join our London team. This role would particularly suit individuals with backgrounds in fund or investment manager analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the group's core collective objective of maintaining and assigning high quality, timely and prospective ratings to money market funds, ultra-short duration bond funds and asset managers, while fully complying with all of Fitch's applicable policies and procedures
  • Conduct periodic monitoring on Fitch rated funds, including timely identification of relevant trends, outliers and events (rating surveillance)
  • Support primary and secondary analysts in maintaining and assigning ratings and, over time, progressively assume additional analytical responsibility
  • Follow market developments and contribute to topical industry research reports
  • Collect data from internal and third-party databases and other sources in support of the team's rating and research activities
  • Other ad-hoc requests


Qualifications and experience:

  • A strong educational background: a 2:1 or equivalent undergraduate degree, from a high quality university, which is relevant to the role or provided skills which are demonstrably transferable to this role.
  • Relevant work experience, acquired, for example, at a fund administrator or trustee, a fund audit firm, an asset manager, or a rating agency.
  • Other backgrounds may be relevant provided the candidate can demonstrate sufficient aptitude in the other capabilities detailed below and clear motivation to work in the asset management sector.
  • Fluency in both English and French.
  • Strong numerical / data management skills.
  • A high level of proficiency in using Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience of writing publication-grade materials
  • Demonstrable interest in the asset management industry.
  • Intellectual curiosity; a thirst to understand the investment decisions made by rated funds and asset managers, their behaviour and the environment in which they operate.
  • Ability to "think analytically": apply methodologies appropriately and insightfully in reaching structured decisions.
  • Team work: able to work collaboratively as part of a multi-cultural and multi-location team.
  • The ability to cope with time pressure and deadlines.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Demonstrable verbal and written communication skills.


And the following desirable characteristics:

  • A master's degree in a relevant discipline or with strong transferable skills
  • Experience of using Bloomberg
  • Ability to program in VBA skills
  • Other programming skills, notably Python
  • Additional language skills
  • Willingness to study towards / progress made towards the CFA
  • Experience of using Lipper for Investment Management


Given the requirement for rating agencies to provide independent opinions, professional integrity and discipline is required and you must be able to appreciate the wider regulatory environment in which Fitch operates. The role will require some travel.
