The PwC Valuations team (of around 170 people) provides advice on the valuation of shares, businesses, intangible assets and debt and derivative instruments to a wide range of clients, including government offices, private equity houses, family businesses, multinational conglomerates and individuals. Clients come to us to obtain our advice on valuation for many reasons, including to support them in transactions, provide expert advice in disputes, negotiate valuations with the tax authorities and to comply with their financial reporting, regulatory or tax requirements.
As valuers we need to fully understand our clients' commercial realities and those of the industries in which they operate. We pride ourselves on being the largest dedicated valuations practice in the UK, and the only one with a focus on industry specialisms. Our objective is to provide our clients with commercial, pragmatic valuation analysis that draws on industry insight and is grounded in technical excellence.
Our Valuations business believes industry specialism is important, and we are recruiting into Valuations, across many of our industry sectors, including Pharmaceuticals and Health Care, Telco, Media & Technology, Retail & Consumer and Energy Utilities and Mining. Candidates should advise if they have relevant expertise in any particular industry sector

About the role
As a Manager within our Valuations business you will have the opportunity to work on high profile engagements with clients ranging from global private equity houses to large listed corporates. You will work within a sector team allowing you to develop an industry specialism and provide sector insights to clients and senior stakeholders.
This is an exciting time to join our Valuations business, you will have the opportunity to grow and develop your career within the UK's largest valuations team. You'll be using data and analytics/technology tools to develop our valuations business in a rapidly growing market.
Working alongside senior colleagues and clients, you will have plenty of opportunity to build skills in business development and marketing, in particular building relationships and contributing to joint route to market strategies with our national Xlos practice.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out financial modelling as part of the valuation process. You will therefore need to be proficient in Excel with solid financial modelling experience
  • Take responsibility for small valuation assignments and specific parts of larger projects according to expertise, the size and complexity of the project, etc.
  • Prepare detailed financial analysis of market comparable companies in the relevant industry sectors
  • Prepare substantial written sections of the final valuation report which support the valuation conclusion. Examples include industry and market analysis, comparable company analyses and detailed valuation methodologies
  • Support senior team members in the development of new business in the sector, including preparation of proposals and pitches, attendance at presentations and identifying opportunities for sell-on of existing work.
  • Manage valuation projects independently and assume day-to-day client contact role
  • Coaching junior staff in areas of technical valuations skills and industry knowledge and key value drivers
  • Working with partners and directors to develop their respective sector focused valuations team, building, developing, and managing client relationships by acting as a direct contact with current and prospective clients.

Aside from the technical valuation skills we're looking for individuals to have good business and client relationship development capabilities, strong communication and people management skills.

Essential skills and experience
The following skills are required for this role
  • ACA (or equivalent) or CFA qualified
  • Sound technical valuation knowledge with the ability to build financial models from scratch
  • Strong analytical skills but tempered with an ability to think laterally
  • Prior valuation experience
  • Ability to deliver quality written work
  • Excellent communication skills - ability to present complex valuation issues in a clear and articulate way
  • Ability to multi-task across multiple assignments and work under time pressure
  • Coach and manage junior members of staff
  • Commercial awareness
