Managing Director – Investment Management

Ennismore Fund Management is a boutique long/short equity fund management company that was established in 1998. The company is the investment manager for three collective investment funds with assets under management of £734m as at 31 July 2020 and 20 employees. The focus of the business is to deliver excellent returns for investors based on bottom-up stock selection utilising in-house fundamental research and a “margin-of-safety” approach. The company will always limit the level of assets under management in order to prioritise investment performance.

The company is now seeking a Managing Director to be the senior executive within the company, the opportunity having arisen due to generational change. This will be a hands-on management role reporting to the Non-executive Chairman/founder of the business and the Board.

Reporting lines will be directly from the Senior Portfolio Managers and the COO.

Key responsibilities will be:

Management of the relationship between the investment managers and the support office functions headed by the COO;

Maintaining and developing a culture of excellence throughout the company with the focus on the delivery of investment performance;

Lead the recruitment, training and development of potential future investment managers;

Strategic positioning of the business in the light of market opportunities and regulatory developments to deliver long term value for equity owners;

Representing the company with Directors of the investment funds managed by the company, investors in the funds and regulators.

Requirements of the role:

A minimum of 5 years senior management experience within the regulated financial services industry;

Detailed understanding of long/short equity fund management including equity derivatives;

Excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to develop and motivate staff;

Post-graduate professional qualification: ACA/FCA or CFA;

Previous FCA approval would be beneficial: the Managing Director will be the firm’s SMF1 under SMCR
