Job Description

A Senior Investment Analyst is sought to join our Responsible Investment team, part of our Global Research department, to play a key role in the development and coordination of investment and stewardship research, engagement and proxy voting.

You will work closely with colleagues, sector analysts and portfolio managers in both the equity and fixed income asset classes, developing and coordinating research and engagement focused on potential and existing corporate controversies (incl. those linked to breaches of legal and regulatory requirements, or international standards such as the UN Global Compact), identifying actionable investment insights and engaging with companies/issuers. You will also play a role in shaping and helping to oversee the firm's use of the voting rights.

Responsibilities

How you'll spend your time.....
  • Conduct thematic and stock/issuer research to identify and analyse trends, risks and drivers of change, growth opportunities, quality of standards of operating practice and the competitive landscape for and of businesses, with a particular lens around corporate controversies and related sustainability risks.
  • Contribute to the monitoring of related public policy and market developments, assessing implications for the firms' responsible investment policies and practices.
  • Recommend actionable investment and engagement ideas through research, integrating top-down thematic and bottom-up fundamental analysis, through a stewardship lens:
    - collaborate with equity and credit analyst around the world to identify and analyse actionable investment opportunities and risks, integrating relational stewardship and responsible investment insights within fundamental research;
    - contribute to the development, coordination and pursuit of prioritized stewardship engagement in collaboration with colleagues, with a particular focus on corporate controversies and related sustainability risks.
  • Work with colleagues to help prioritize and implement the effective use of and reporting on the voting rights exercised by the firm.
  • Work effectively with and help educate colleagues in the investment department to maximize the effectiveness of both the firm's investment research and stewardship (engagement) priorities.
  • Contribute to the firms thought leadership and client engagement and engagement in industry forums and related initiatives.


Required Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have...
  • You should have proven analytical capability relevant to fundamental investment analysis.
  • Extensive experience of thematic, investment or development finance research and analysis.
  • Prior experience of working in and with investors (fund managers, private equity, real asset, development finance etc).
  • An understanding of sustainability trends and interest in responsible investment.
  • Able to think boldly and creatively.
  • Able to communicate investment ideas clearly and engage with corporate leaders on controversial issues.
  • Familiarity with the relevant compliance and regulatory practice.
  • A focus on output and achievement.
  • Team player, able to work in a multi-disciplinary, global environment.
  • Able to commit to Columbia Threadneedle's corporate values.


Preferred Qualifications

If you also had this, it would be great...

• Previous experience in investment analysis, corporate engagement or in a comparable professional capacity.
• Previous asset management or investment analyst background
• CFA, Accounting or legal qualification or equivalent
• Familiarity with R / Python would be an advantage
• Ability to mentor and develop other analysts
• The role may involve occasional global travel
