About Fidelity Solutions & Multi Asset

Solutions & Multi Asset (S&MA) is a global team, managing portfolios using a wide range of asset classes, including equities, fixed income, real estate, infrastructure and other alternatives. The team manage $55bn on behalf of institutional and retail clients across global regions. Our large team includes Investment Management, Global Macro & Strategic Asset Allocation, Manager Research, Client Solutions and Implementation resources, supported by Fidelity's significant operational infrastructure to deliver investment services to clients. These resources support investment decision-making across a range of portfolio construction disciplines, including tactical asset allocation, strategy selection and risk management.

The Investment Management team is responsible for managing client portfolios and the tactical asset allocation process. The team-based process has a primary focus on delivering high-quality outcomes to clients, in a scalable and efficient way. The team manages investment strategies across a range of outcomes, such as Income, Absolute Return, Systematic, and Dynamic Growth. Each of these outcome groups are run by distinct teams of 3-4 people, drawing on the richness and expertise of the IM team but allowing enough discretion for PMs to deliver on the outcomes consistent with their mandates and guidelines.

Portfolio Managers in S&MA draw on an extensive toolkit for delivering investment objectives, including a large and well-resourced research team (across Tactical Asset Allocation, Manager Research and Quantitative Research), as well as a dedicated Portfolio Analytics, Portfolio Construction and Risk team, and implementation specialists. The team also works with colleagues across Fidelity's bottom-up investment teams across key asset classes, capturing research from this substantial global research platform.

Purpose of your role

The purpose of your role is to provide top-down tactical asset allocation analysis to Solutions & Multi Asset's team, to contribute ideas and preparatory content for regular tactical allocation meetings, to take an active part in various 'decision sets' that make (sub-)asset class recommendations for our core portfolios, to generate idiosyncratic tactical trade ideas and help manage the databank of these ideas, and to support multi asset portfolio managers globally.

Key responsibilities:

You will be part of the wider research team in Solutions & Multi Asset, top-down tactical asset allocation to Solutions & Multi Asset's team and to support multi asset portfolio managers globally.
The Tactical Asset Allocation function is all about idea generation, across all major asset classes. As a member of the Tactical Asset Allocation team, you will provide an advisory service to Multi Asset portfolio managers implementing tactical allocation positions. Ideas can include long-short relative value strategies and benchmark relative trades, and should be aligned with portfolio managers' objectives, either by supporting their core positioning or by providing suggestions for overlays, hedges or additional non-core tactical trading opportunities that fit within the portfolios remits.
You will work closely with the other analysts in the Tactical Asset Allocation team and the Multi Asset portfolio managers, conducting research, communicating ideas, maintaining and developing proprietary quantitative indicators, preparing useful materials for investment team meetings, participating in active discussion around markets and economic data, and responding to questions about the impact of market events.
Your work will be hands-on. Research is firmly integrated in investment management across the business for the benefit of our clients. Your success as an analyst will depend on the quality of your recommendations, the strength of your communication, and your engagement with the portfolio management team.
Solutions & Multi Asset is rapidly building out its ESG research capabilities and integrating sustainability into our entire investment process. This goes well beyond lip service to the idea; we firmly believe sustainability is an essential factor to consider in investment decisions with a significant impact on client outcomes. You will be expected to take an active and enthusiastic role in this evolving process, and help make it continuously more robust and impactful.
Development of your idea generation skills will be important and further training will be encouraged.

Team interaction
This role is deeply embedded within the Solutions & Multi Asset investment function, and requires considerable interaction with others in the form of:
Contributing ideas and insights to regular team research meetings and to Solutions & Multi Asset investment meetings.
Discussing investment ideas with the Solutions & Multi asset team across all asset classes.
Engaging with analysts in Fixed Income and Equity when relevant, to gain a deeper understanding of developments.
Engaging with the Solutions & Multi Asset Client Solutions team to support appropriate and high-quality messaging in client materials when investment ideas are discussed.
Interacting with portfolio managers daily.

Experience and Qualifications:

Ideally 3-5 years' experience with tactical allocation research, with a strong focus on markets rather than macro and on idea generation
Exceptional analytical thinking and numerical skills
CFA qualification preferred, or studying towards the CFA designation
A passion for or experience of ESG-led investments
High standard of personal integrity and alignment with Fidelity's required values and behaviours
Team player with the proven ability to build strong relationships internally and externally
An inquisitive mind with excellent attention to detail
Deadline oriented and highly organised, with the ability to work under pressure
Proactive approach and a 'can-do' attitude to take ownership and resolve issues
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; ability to explain complex strategies in simple, transparent ways
This role is captured under SMCR and therefore could be subject to enhanced background vetting checks.
