The Company

J. Stern & Co. is a leading investment partnership, based in London and Zurich, building on the Stern family's 200-year-old banking heritage.

Since 1805, the Stern family has successfully created, preserved and increased its clients' assets on the same principles, values and alignment of interests. Representing the sixth generation we pride ourselves in the quality of our investment process and proprietary analysis.

We manage in excess of $1.1bn of assets and invest globally in stocks, bonds and other assets on behalf of families, entrepreneurs, trusts, charities, institutions and other long-term investors based on our own in-house independent research.

The Role

We are looking for an analytical and self-motivated individual to identify, analyse and recommend investment opportunities appropriate for the objectives of the Firm's credit strategies, in particular the multi-asset income strategy and emerging market corporate debt strategy. You will also be responsible for monitoring the performance of new and existing investments on an ongoing basis ensuring they continue to deliver against expectations. The primary investment universe is emerging markets hard currency corporate bonds.

What you will do
  • Identify and conduct independent in-depth research on new corporate credit opportunities and make recommendations on approved issuers.
  • Utilise qualitative and quantitative frameworks to assess fundamental, credit and ESG metrics as part of the bottom-up research analysis.
  • Prepare concise Investment Memoranda and present these at the Investment Committee for discussion and approval.
  • Monitor the performance of existing investments to ensure they remain aligned with the original investment thesis and where they deviate, recommend appropriate action.
  • Circulate ideas on investment opportunities and share insights and market intelligence that may be relevant to the performance of investments on an informal and formal basis.
  • Support and contribute to commercial and marketing initiatives which promote the products and strategies developed by the Credit Investment team.
  • Provide coaching and training to less experienced members of the team to support their personal development.

About you

Your experience

You will have a bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification, ideally in a field that relates to finance, accounting or other relevant business fields. The CFA qualification is preferential. You will have substantial experience of qualitative and quantitative credit analysis (ideally 4-6 years) with previous investment exposure to emerging markets hard currency corporate bonds. Your experience could be from an investment fund, investment bank or rating agency. Being familiar with ESG standards and frameworks would be an advantage.

Your attributes

You will be a proactive team player, capable of working effectively without close supervision and you will have a 'can do' approach. You think critically, are open minded and objective. You develop robust business cases that have clear rationale and that are based on sound research and analysis. You are also an excellent communicator who builds successful working relationships both inside and outside the Firm.

Next Steps

If this role interests you and you have the skills and experience we are looking for, we welcome your application. Please send us your current CV together with a cover letter which explains your interest in the role and your suitability.
