Who we're looking for

This role sits in the Active Ownership team, and reports into the Head of Active Ownership. This sub-team is a key pillar within our ESG strategy, and works alongside the rest of the Sustainability team who are leaders in the ESG pillars of Integration; Research; Tools; and Product. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the implementation of our engagement plan, and will manage the relationships with many internal teams. They will support the team across a range of tasks and will be responsible for ensuring our active ownership policies are communicated across the business globally and supporting the delivery of our engagement activities. Over time they will support developing our engagement strategy on key ESG themes and join engagements.

Environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues are quickly becoming more important to us and our clients. Companies compete in a fast changing world in which their abilities to adapt to social and environmental change are becoming increasingly important to their profitability and values. We are committed to building the leading research, investment and active ownership process that embeds understanding of these trends across the funds we manage.

The role sits in the Sustainability team which has expanded to 20 people (and counting), covering a wide range of activities from thematic research, company analysis, engaging with investee companies, portfolio monitoring, screening, corporate governance actions, client communication and marketing and discussions with policy makers and other stakeholders. Our sustainability specialists work with investment teams rather than operating in a silo, which facilitates regular dialogue with our analysts and investors.

What you'll do

The role will include, but is not limited to: -

  • Working with various investment teams and other stakeholders to help them understand our active ownership approach, and engagement policies, procedures and tools;
  • Answering ad hoc queries from our investment and product teams around our active ownership approach
  • Oversee the roll out of a new engagement recording database
  • Supporting the teams external reporting work (i.e. Stewardship Code submission)
  • Supporting engagements led by the team, including scheduling calls / meetings, minute-taking and logging engagements
  • Helping facilitate mass engagements to investee companies; - Analysing data on engagement activity and producing summary statistics for reporting purposes
  • Developing case studies to demonstrate the impact of our engagements to clients and other stakeholders
  • Keeping our Active Ownership intranet webpages up-to-date, and updating our PLC webpage with our latest engagement reports
  • On occasion, supporting the voting implementation process; - An active member of team meetings, generating ideas to update processes; and contributing in wider team discussions. The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need.


The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need

  • Passion for ESG and sustainability
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Highly Numerate, with the ability to analyse and manipulate data


The knowledge, experience and qualifications that will help

  • Understanding of financial markets and sustainable investing
  • Prior experience of working within asset management industry
  • Studying towards a CFA ESG qualification (or equivalent)
