THE POSITION

Investment Strategy (iStrat) is a dedicated team of investment professionals managing solutions for our clients and conducting differentiated research with a practitioner's mindset. The team includes Strategists, Researchers and Portfolio Managers within the Multi-Asset, Fundamental Factor and Next Generation Thematic platforms. The Investment Strategy group manages approximately $50 billion of client assets across a range of Multi-Asset, Thematic, Absolute Return, Income and Unconstrained portfolios. The teams provide bespoke research and advice across various topics such as asset allocation, fundamental factors, thematic investing and manager research. They also manage various outcome oriented, factor, and thematic portfolios on behalf of clients.

The Director of Investment Strategy will partner with the Co-Heads of iStrat on the strategy and execution of the business, as well as day to day business activities. The Director will play a critical role in ensuring that the iStrat team has the resources and infrastructure to achieve our client's objectives, implement the group's vision, act as a fiduciary and be nimble to respond to our clients' evolving needs. The Director will also play a leadership role working cross-functionally to optimize the connection with our Infrastructure platform and our Client platform. This role will be based in London.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Research focus

* Evolving our external research capability strategy. Working with team leaders on leveraging their research agendas to provide thought leadership for our clients in a scalable way that produces the highest impact;

* Leveraging our investment research to engage with strategic clients more effectively/efficiently and more broadly;

* Developing a strategy in collaboration with the Co-Heads of iStrat for cross-platform delivery of client research;

* Partnering with our Client Group, Investments, Products & Strategies Group (IPFS), Marketing team and other stakeholders to assist with the focus items and strategy above.

Investment capabilities and iStrat talent

Ensure that we attract, retain and develop world class investment and research talent necessary to meet client objectives, generate excellent thought leadership and deliver investment performance.

* Managing a diverse team of investment professionals that includes Multi-Asset Portfolio Managers / Strategists, Manager Researchers, Thematic investors and Investment Strategy Analysts globally;

* Building diverse and inclusive teams in which different perspectives, backgrounds and skills are embraced and encouraged to improve idea generation and client outcomes;

* Investor Development - identifying and building investment skill sets including thematic investing, factor investing and from an allocator perspective;

* Succession planning - identifying talent needs / gaps and providing ongoing assessment of investment skills and capabilities;

* Providing ongoing guidance, coaching and feedback for a wide range of experience levels;

* Helping the team have impact by focusing on long term investment performance, differentiated research, finding solutions to "pain points", and producing clear and impactful communication within teams and across geographies;

* Providing ongoing assessment and feedback on investment and research skills and working with the leadership team on mid and year and performance and compensation review processes.

Investment Oversight

* Provision of fiduciary and supervisory oversight and regulatory oversight;

* Contributing to ensuring a successful operational model for the iStrat business and each team;

* Protection of the team's time to enable them to focus on investment outcomes and research;

* Representing iStrat in a variety of cross-functional projects and initiatives

Infrastructure and Support

* Ensuring the iStrat platform has the necessary infrastructure and support to achieve our client's investment objectives and meet our fiduciary and regulatory responsibilities;

* Participating in new product and solution discussions globally and across functions;

* Connecting and collaborating with key partners across the firm including Trading, Product Management/IPFS, Legal & Compliance, IT, and the Client Group.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will have a passion for markets and investing that, combined with creative/flexible thinking, can/will provide innovative advice and solutions for clients. They will also possess the following skills/attributes:

* Demonstrable (likely 10+ years) relevant professional experience. The successful candidate will bring a commercial / research / investment sales perspective, which may have been gained through experience in Research Sales or as a Portfolio Manager, Head of Research, Head of Sales or similar;

* Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm to build our business; demonstrated ability to play a key role in guiding the direction of the business, and acting as a thought partner to other senior leaders in iStrat;

* Outstanding collaboration and teamwork skills; able to work successfully and build trust with very experienced, passionate investors, and with multiple functions across the globe, to ensure effective end-to-end investment processes;

* Proven experience of attracting, retaining, developing and motivating investment talent and fostering diverse and inclusive teams, oriented towards coaching, mentoring and delivering feedback; outstanding leadership and management skills; ability to manage remote individuals/teams;

* Highly organized, able to multitask, prioritize and complete multiple projects simultaneously; focused on results and willing to roll up their sleeves to get things done;

* Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to articulate and integrate numerous viewpoints and mobilize/influence across iStrat and the firm;

* Executive presence to effectively represent the function and our investment teams in discussions on the strategic direction of the business, and with senior audiences, committees and working groups;

* Ability to navigate stressful situations with poise, focused on being a calming presence, active listener and pragmatic problem solver; resilient, with a high degree of self-motivation and a growth mindset.
