Department Overview:

Group Infrastructure Services (GIS) are responsible for delivery and architecture of Nomura's Core IT Infrastructure. Encompassing Cloud and Digital Technology, Systems Monitoring, Orchestration and Automation as well as more traditional enterprise IT Platforms (Storage, Servers, Virtualisation, Networks & Database). EIS offer technology services that underpin the banks application landscape, and provide front to back end user services that operate across technology and business disciplines. Offering an ever broader range of career options, EIS provide not only technology pathways in development, product engineering or technical support, but provide consultative services that form delivery of solutions within the bank spanning Business Analysis, Project Management and Governance.

Team Overview:

The Cloud Operations team is responsible for the deployment and support of Nomura's Hybrid Cloud environment comprising of an internal private cloud and an integration to public cloud services such as AWS. The team operates a global 24x7 "Follow The Sun" (FTS) support model with regional teams based in London, India, Japan, and America. The team is made up of individuals from a number of IT backgrounds, but all have a focus on automation and process improvement.

The team responsibilities consists of:
  • Active collabortion with the Global Operations and Engineering teams to implement key projects within the Cloud environments
  • Monitor, support, and maintain the private and public cloud platforms
  • Provide assistance and support to transformation programs for application and services looking to move to the cloud environments
  • Provide automation and process | system improvements within the cloud space and consultancy services to other teams using technoglogies such as Ansible and Python.

Role / Principal Accountabilities:

The role will be a member of the Cloud Operations team in EMEA. The initial focuss will be on a new Application Platform that will be used to provide hosted Kubernetes deployments. Goal is to establish a GitOps style operating model with support for separate EKS deployment and Dev pipelines initially with Rancher being looked at later in the year.

This is an Operations role, so there is an expectation of On Call and Queue management, however, at the moment, this is only once every 3 months.

This is a great opportunity to get involved with new technologies and help shape the Cloud implementation within Nomura.

The successful candidate will be expected to have the same ethos and appetite for automation, a background in Kubernetes and Gitops, and knowledge of cloud technologies.

Technical Experience/Knowledge Required:

Essential to have most of the following:
  • Scripting and source control skills (e.g. Python, Bash, PowerShell and Git)
  • Strong knowledge of Kubernetes and Containers (preferably EKS or Rancher)
  • Minimum of Cloud Practitioner level AWS qualifications
  • ITIL experience including change and incident management preferred
  • Understanding of Network concepts
  • Strong level of Linux (preferably RedHatx or 8.x)
  • Knowledge of virtualisation and some level of experience with VMware
  • Knowledge/Experience of using devops based tools (e.g. Ansible, git etc.)
  • Knowledge/Experience of using Terraform

  • Cloud Associate level AWS qualifications
  • Enterprise experience of EKS
  • Strong understanding of GitOps and SRE
