Senior Underwriter within International Property Facultative

Working within a Lloyds framework with the ability of utilizing Bermudian capacity.

Line Size up to USD75M / EUR75M / GBP50M

Mainly a mid to high XS of loss re-insurance market

Limited US / Critical CAT appetite

Key accountabilities
  • Review, negotiate, accept or decline risks on behalf of the Company
  • Maintain and develop business relationships with broking houses and insurers to ensure a flow of business within appetite.
  • Ensure all business is thoroughly evaluated and rated, and that risks written adhere to the Company / Lloyds Underwriting Standards and individual Authority Limits
  • Ensure management and reporting of portfolio aggregates are in line with appetite and tolerances as per the departmental business plan
  • Assist with the development and modification of policy wording clauses and exclusions as circumstances require and as directed by the team leaders
  • To assist the Underwriting Property manager in all facets of portfolio management, including ; Retro purchasing / Planning / Strategy / Reporting.
  • To assist in the Peer Review process within the underwriting team

Skills & experience
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent formal education qualification
  • At least 7/10 years Prop UW experience writing experience and authority from either an insurance or reinsurance segment
  • Preferably experience of Facultative XS of loss underwriting
  • Knowledge of the London market and Lloyds environment
  • Good track record in business development and good strong individual risk underwriting skills
  • Completion of appropriate Industry qualification e.g. ACII - Desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to embrace and look positively upon change.
  • Excellent critical reasoning, numerical reasoning, problem solving, analytical and creative thinking skills
  • Technical and presentation skills suitable for a professional environment
  • Strong negotiation and business development skills
  • Adaptability to change in a fluid commercial environment
  • Self-motivated team player with strong inter-personal skills and a willingness to use own initiative within authorized parameters
