We are looking for a talented analyst to join our Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Data team in London. Tilney Smith & Williamson has a strong commitment to corporate responsibility. It is core to our purpose, our culture and business strategy. The group's corporate responsibility framework and activities are overseen by the Corporate Responsibility Committee, which are divided into four pillars: environment, responsible investment, people, and charities and communities.

The Data Analyst is in the first instance required to support the Investment Management ESG project in developing ESG data management and business requirements for all TS&W Investment Management stakeholders (e.g. the ESG Project Team, Investment Managers, Investment Risk personnel, Sector Specialists) as well as reporting requirements for suitability oversight and sustainable disclosure (e.g., UN PRI, UK Stewardship Code, and pending EU/UK SFDR and TCFD rules).

IT are building a tactical ESG solution and tools to provide the investment management front office with position level and ESG data and metrics that will need to be assessed, improved, and developed into strategic ESG data capabilities with the business.

The initial focus will be on capturing investment data provided by the Business Intelligence team. This will include understanding the inputs and areas where ongoing data problems exist (e.g. for manually sourced or missing position data, coverage of MSCI ESG metrics for particular securities), and develop into various reports required for Investment Management SME's and risk professionals to further understand ESG related risks and reporting required. This will include development and reporting of climate-related metrics and Principal Adverse Impact indicators (PAIs) for policy development and stewardship and engagement activities.

As an ESG Data Analyst, some of your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting the ESG/RI project manager in various ESG/RI working groups, Liaising with Investment Management SMEs and other core Responsible Investment stakeholders as part of the Investment Management ESG Project team. Providing data analysis and assessments to support ESG/RI investment management capabilities and policy developments as required by the working group(s).
  • Working closely with IT Business Analysts and Business Intelligence team members to respond to the delivery and testing of data management solutions required. This will involve data sourcing from external vendors, e.g., MSCI, and liaising with Investment Risk and other Investment Management ESG SMEs as required. They will need to understand investment portfolio data, including the breakdown of positions for individual client portfolios and on an aggregated basis for the TS&W group, and identify issues and provide recommendations to address quality and provision of ESG data for use in risk management, client reporting and required disclosures.
  • Keeping an eye on ESG/RI industry data developments and tools to provide the ESG/RI project and Investment managers with valuable input as the ESG sector matures and TS&W further develops its ESG/RI data capabilities. Liaising with IT to ensure the ESG/RI position level data stored in our data warehouse and the ESG/RI vendor data are available and data quality issues are addressed and remediated.
  • Developing and running regular snapshots and reports in Power BI and/or other data analytics tools for input into SFDR and TCFD annual regulatory disclosure as well as Investment management reports. They will provide oversight for the provision of aggregated position level data and ESG metrics (e.g., climate related metrics and Principal Adverse Impact indicators) for use in TS&W's Corporate level annual entity level reporting for SFDR and TCFD, as part of the Corporate Responsibility Corporate project overseen by the Corporate Responsibility Committee.
  • Following delivery of IT's solution, providing input into incremental requirements and understanding of ESG data management and enhancements required. Eventually our long term ESG data solutions will be implemented, and they will support on the various data needs as part of these solutions. The ESG Data Manager's knowledge and expertise will be required, as part of the development and transition to an established BAU function (see below).
  • Working alongside the ESG/RI project manager, Investment Risk and Quant teams to define and develop strategic data models, integrated data solutions, scenario analysis models and engagement tools. After the initial ESG Project, they will, in time, provide support to all TS&W Investment Management stakeholders as our understanding and expertise evolves. For example, they will input into data requirements for portfolio risk management, suitability oversight and sustainable disclosures using data management tools provided by our IT and Business Intelligence and Analytics colleagues (e.g., via Power BI tools). As the role develops, they will also respond to ad hoc client reporting and other requests from Investment Managers, Investment Risk personnel, Sector Specialists, and other investment personnel.
