Aladdin Sustainability Lab is a newly formed team in BlackRock's Aladdin business unit, focusing on providing technology solutions for sustainability investment.

We are looking for a hands-on leader with a strong background in writing excellent code, awesome problem-solving skills, insatiable appetite for learning and innovating, passionate about climate change, to joint BlackRock's Aladdin Sustainability Lab.

The team

Come join a diverse and collaborative group of developers and researchers in Aladdin Sustainability Lab (ASL)! As a member of ASL, you will be working with clients and partners on Aladdin Climate (https://www.blackrock.com/aladdin/products/aladdin-climate) . You will have the opportunity to work across research and modelling, analytics, product management, design, and engineering functions to help bring this product to life.

The Model Implementation Team within ASL is a close-knit group of developers focused on bringing climate and financial models and data to production. The team, working closely with modelers and developers to build solutions and platform that assess the financial impacts of climate change, climate policy, and energy policy on large number of asset classes - from corporate equity and fixed income, to mortgages, municipal bonds, sovereign debt, and alternative investments.

Responsibilities

The role is to be a technical lead/team manager of the ASL Model Implementation and Research Data team. The team uses multiple programming languages and data technologies to implement climate related investment risk models and analytics and integrate them into Aladdin Climate and ESG applications. The team also provides integrated and scalable data solutions for research and modeling in climate risk. As the leader, the person will lead the model/analytics architecture design, tech stack choice, direct and conduct model implementation, system integration etc.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in a software engineering, quantitative development, or data science/engineer team
  • Substantial experience and track record of analytics system architect as well as bringing quantitative models and data processes to production
  • A deep software engineering mindset. This includes practices such as agile, test automation, object-oriented design, design patterns, release management.
  • Proficient in at least one software engineering language (C++/Java/Go) and one data science language (Python/R/MATLAB/Julia), as well as shell scripting in Unix-like operating system
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL database, large datasets; experience with unstructured data
  • Experience with cloud platform and Cloud Native technology
  • Strong background in Mathematics: statistics, probability, linear algebra is a big plus
  • Strong communication skill is a must. Management experience is preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to learn fast, multi-task, self-motivate and pick up new things easily
