Role Summary:

An exciting opportunity for a dynamic accountant to drive the ongoing evolution of the M&G plc Group Reporting team. This role is responsible for supporting the overall preparation and delivery of the Group's financial reporting, and covers a broad range of responsibilities including the preparation of the Group's financial results; contributing to papers for Audit Committee and other governance forums; reporting quarterly management information to the Board; and involvement in technical accounting decisions and analysis.

Work Level Accountabilities:

Manager or Expert:
  • For people managers, accountable for managing and motivating others to ensure quality of delivery to customers and stakeholders
  • For technical specialists, accountable for delivering expert advice or service, using specialist knowledge and subject matter expertise
  • Applies judgement to deliver outcomes, evaluating a range of potential solutions, considering the impact for customers, cost and risk
  • Manages conflicts that may impact delivery
  • Challenges upwards given knowledge of delivery and awareness of complex systems and the broader picture
  • Identifies and anticipates need for changes to continuously improve quality and efficiency of output
  • Manages resources and risks using expert judgment, know-how and experience

Key Responsibilities of the role include:
  • Supporting the Group Financial Reporting Manager in the overall production of the Group's consolidated financial statements and other external reporting
  • Supporting or leading the delivery of other external and internal financial reporting
  • Production of sections of papers required to be prepared for the M&G plc Board, Group Audit Committee and other governance forums on aspects relating to the Group reporting process
  • To support the implementation of new accounting standards and contribute to the delivery of other finance change projects that impact the Group reporting process
  • To liaise with the external auditors, ensuring that timescales are communicated and agreed and the auditors' requirements are met to ensure timely completion of their work
  • To maintain effective working relationships with other teams across M&G Finance, ensuring that Group reporting needs are communicated, understood and met
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customer outcomes
  • Supporting continuous improvement through routine and bespoke analyses Supporting the programme with detailed accounting analysis

Knowledge & Experience:
To ensure your success in this role you will be/have:
  • An accountancy qualification (e.g. CA, ACA, ACCA) with significant post-qualified experience
  • Detailed knowledge of IFRS and Solvency II reporting
  • Detailed knowledge of financial and regulatory reporting requirements and associated legal frameworks

It is desirable for the candidate to have:
  • Significant experience in the production and delivery of financial reporting in a life insurance or asset management organisation
  • Experience in implementing new accounting standards
  • Knowledge of general ledger, consolidation and reporting systems
  • Good knowledge of industry trends, best practice and developments, good networks / links with external bodies and individuals in the same field

Additional Personal and Technical Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and with the ability to communicate and present complex issues simply across all levels
  • Able to apply logic and problem solving to complex accounting problems
  • Highly analytical and skilled problem solver, with a strong commercial mind-set, and the ability to distil complex ideas or problems into simple, effective plans and solutions
  • Proactive self-starter who takes ownership, and has a strong track record for delivery
  • Ability to manage tensions and conflicts to achieve outcomes that work for all parties
