Performance and Reporting Assistant Manager - Private Equity

This Performance and Reporting role sits within the finance function at a well-established Private Equity business based in central London who are a leading specialist in global private markets with an AUM of more than $5 billion.

Function of the role

My client is looking to recruit a Performance & Reporting Assistant Manager into a high performing team whose mandate is to service the demands of internal and external stakeholders across private equity / infrastructure funds and the management company. They will be able to collaborate and assist the broader team and be confident liaising with people at all levels across the business. They will be excited by the opportunity to take ownership and responsibility. This role will also provide the applicant with direct access to senior management.

This is a hands-on role and a rare opportunity to drive improvements within a high growth and fast paced environment. The role is highly analytical, requires a keen eye for detail, experience of drafting presentations and reports for external dissemination and requires an enthusiasm for operationally developing the function. Initially this will be a reporting and performance driven role, focused on instilling procedure, accuracy and timeliness within the team which will then expand to a wider scope of driving Fund performance.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
  • Day to day handling of performance calculations
  • Assisting in the quarterly investor reporting process across Infrastructure and Private Equity, covering multiple strategies/geographies
  • Tracking and answering investor queries on performance and reporting, liaising with appropriate stakeholders as required
  • Oversight of administrator's provision of data for inclusion in investor reports as applicable
  • Liaising with the investment team
  • Understanding and explaining industry performance metrics and benchmarks
  • Achieving a detailed understanding of the fund's partnership agreements, operations, portfolio investments and fund performance models in order to deliver accountabilities
  • Adhere to the FCA's Conduct Rules, understanding that they set basic standards of good personal conduct.


Accountabilities

The role will be the primary source of information for performance data and investor reporting, including;

Cyclical Reporting & Performance review
  • Quarterly reporting - assisting in preparing and planning the investor reporting process and reviewing final reports
  • Preparation and review of investor reporting, presentations, and Fund analysis with the assistance of the wider P&R Team and internal stakeholders. This includes drafting the fund investment performance reports each quarter for the Portfolio Managers in an accurate and timely manner
  • Annual review of investor reports to ensure that they are in line with industry standards
  • Annual reporting - Collating AGM information and other periodic reporting for clients
  • Assisting in managing the Client Portal including the circulation of investor reports

Performance
  • Performance measurement - Ensuring track records are prepared accurately on a quarterly basis and externally reviewed semi-annually or annually as agreed
  • Assist in reviewing fund models
  • Ongoing and ad hoc analysis of Fund performance and investor performance with calculation of industry standard performance metrics

Other
  • Working closely with the administrators and fund accounting team to ensure financial reporting is accurate and timely and reflects all relevant insight from the wider team
  • Support data collation for client operational due diligence visits


Person Specification

Private equity and infrastructure experience is desired, as is a good grasp of the commercial nature, accounting, and financial reporting requirements for these types of vehicles:
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) min: 2:1 obtained
  • Minimum - Partially qualified (working toward a professional financial qualification), or newly qualified - i.e. chartered financial analyst / chartered accountant / equivalent financial qualification
  • Minimum three years work experience in the financial services sector
  • Knowledge of fund accounting, audit, analysis, or administration background within Private Equity / Infrastructure
  • Highly analytical with prowess for working with high volumes of numerical data and transforming this into actionable insights for decision making
  • Report writing skills - including fluent command of business level English
  • Advanced IT literacy with advanced knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Ability to be flexible to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to build relationships across the business to ensure all stakeholders' expectations are managed and met
  • Will be required to ensure a large number and variety of tasks and responsibilities are completed within tight timelines
  • Forward thinking, good at planning and effective at prioritising
  • Able to communicate at all levels, including board level
  • You will have a hands-on approach and a willing and flexible attitude

Additional Competencies
  • Modelling - advanced user of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Bloomberg, Investran and Salesforce experience is desirable
