Executive, Strategy and Transactions - Corporate Finance & Restructuring
Financial Services, Manchester or London (candidate dependent)

Are you good at seeing the big picture? Then join EY to gain experiences that will last a lifetime.

Manchester office

As a result of an increasing pipeline including a number of transactions within the North, we are looking to establish a Strategy and Transactions team in Manchester, starting with the creation of an M&A team. The team will be initially focused on executing transactions across the UK as an extension of the London based team in addition to being instrumental in establishing a Corporate Finance presence in the North.

EY has a strong presence in Manchester with over 700 people located in our St. Peter's Square office. In 2003 the Financial Services division was started in Manchester and has since grown to over 250 people across Assurance, Tax and Consulting, with ambitions to get to over 400 within the coming 3 years.

We now see a great opportunity to build on our Financial Services success in Manchester through developing out our Strategy and Transactions capability. Over the next 3 years we have ambitions to further grow this into a full transactions offering with up to 20 people across corporate finance, financial diligence, modelling, strategy - all supporting and serving the North with specialist Financial Services transaction advice.

London office

Our Financial Services Corporate Finance & Restructuring team is currently based in Canary Wharf and comprises almost 40 individuals advising a range of clients including mid-cap financial institutions, banks, private equity houses and entrepreneurial businesses on strategic/funding option reviews, acquisitions, disposals, raising equity, debt refinancing and restructuring (including non-performing loans, bank resolution, corporate insolvencies, etc.).

What you will do

The role will be predominately M&A focused, however you will have the opportunity to work on both debt advisory and M&A transactions. Working as part of a team you will have the opportunity to absorb new technical information and develop a deep understanding of the strategic rationale for transactions across different sectors. You'll analyse key value drivers at a market and business level, and co-ordinate the supporting research, modelling the financial implications of transactions and financing events. You'll also produce data and financial analysis to support the core transaction / capital raising negotiation process and prepare client reports and transaction materials for fund-raising, acquisitions and disposals.
In addition, you will:
  • Prepare information memoranda for capital raising or the disposal of businesses, and co-ordinate the production of target profiles on acquisitions.
  • Help set project budgets and ensure the firm's risk procedures are enforced and documented.
  • Support the co-ordination of project workstreams and update the overall transaction timetable.
  • Interact with different specialists in the firm, and colleagues across the globe, to deliver enhanced transaction solutions.
  • Ensure quality on all client deliverables, technical accuracy and best-in-class insights.
  • Support new business development, including the production of high quality collateral, developing pitch documents and attending meetings with clients and prospects.

Skills and attributes for success

As an executive in Corporate Finance & Restructuring you will ideally have 2-3 years post-graduation experience in a financial services transactions environment, however we also encourage applicants who especially have an audit based or transaction diligence based background who are excited about the opportunity of moving into a transactions environment.

Ideally, you'll also have
  • Experience in building financial models and valuing businesses using various methodologies, mainly DCF, precedent transactions and traded comparable companies
  • Strong numerical and financial skills and data analysis and an understanding of financial statements.
  • Passion for learning and working on transactions with a commitment to high quality of output
  • Confident, with strong communication and people handling skills evidenced in client-facing situations.
  • Strong written communication skills, experience of writing presentations and other process materials.
  • Committed to working to tight deadlines, efficient and evidencing strong project management skills.
