About the BlackRock London Returners Programme

The Returners programme is designed to encourage and support a return to full-time work for up to ten experienced candidates through a six-month paid Returnship starting in September 2022.

We are seeking experienced individuals who are client orientated and passionate about performance, who display collaborative and innovative mindsets, and bring an eclectic set of proficiencies to the workplace; prioritisation, analytical and organisational skills amongst others.

BlackRock is looking for candidates with prior experience in Investment Management or broader Financial Services, who have had a career break outside of Industry of at least two years (with no upper limit). You must have the right to work in the UK to apply for the programme.

BSI Researcher job profile

Your role and impact:

We are seeking a high-energy, self-motivated and organized Researcher who is passionate about sustainability to join BSI in a multi-faceted and dynamic role at the cross-section of sustainability research, climate analytics and modeling.

The Researcher will be part of a global team responsible for creating a platform ESG research capability, with a particular focus on designing and managing the BlackRock Sustainable Investing Intelligence portfolios. The Investment Researcher will help design of sustainability-oriented investment strategies and help execute on the overall strategy for the team, with a particular focus on communicating the nuances of our research to other stakeholders around the firm. A combination of communication and analytical skills is a must. The successful candidate will possess a passion for creative and critical thinking about financial markets, and a desire to be part of a fast-growing team.

Your responsibilities:
  • Support the Investment Research team to develop and deliver a platform ESG research capability, create key ESG insights and original ESG research
  • Build relationships with other teams supporting the investment and research process.
  • Closely partner with multiple teams across the organization in the execution of joint research work, and partner to design and construct portfolios tailored to suit investor requirements and preferences.
  • Support and drive the evolution of the investment platform and leverage the power of Aladdin and BLK risk tools in all aspects of portfolio management.
  • Contribute to written thought leadership on broader sustainability issues, particularly those closely connected to climate and the energy transition-such as biodiversity, just transition, and the SDGs


You have:
  • Relevant climate/sustainability research and/or investment industry experience, preferably with emphasis in climate change, energy systems, and ESG analytics
  • Strong interest in deepening understanding of investment portfolio analytical approaches including familiarity with investment research and/or portfolio construction, investment processes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize information, summarize issues and think creatively
  • Ability to effectively translate complex investment and sustainability topics into easy-to-understand memos and presentations for senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and proofing skills are critical
  • Proficiency in Python coding a plus
  • An ambitious spirit that is ready to take on a full range of tasks and pursue additional responsibility quickly
  • BA/BS from an accredited university
