About this role

Technical Support Level 2 Engineer, Intern role, Edinburgh - Global Technology Services

At BlackRock, we are all connected by one mission: to help more and more people experience financial well-being! Our clients, and the people they serve, are saving for retirement, paying for their children's educations, buying homes and starting businesses. Their investments also help to strengthen the global economy: support businesses small and large; finance infrastructure projects that connect and power cities; and facilitate innovations that drive progress!

This mission would not be possible without our most resourceful investment - the one we make in our employees. It's why we're dedicated to crafting an environment where our colleagues feel encouraged, valued and supported with networks, benefits and development opportunities to help them thrive.

Technology has always been a core component of BlackRock's "DNA". Over the years, the smart use of technology has distinguished BlackRock by supporting leading risk management capabilities and driving operational consistency and efficiency around the globe.

You would be involved in supporting ground-breaking hardware, mobile technology, network and server infrastructure and desktop telephony on a day to day basis.
Your team
The Technical Support Level 2 Team forms part of the BlackRock Global Technology Services Team across the EMEA region, supporting in excess of 5000 staff across 24 locations. As a member of the team you will have the opportunity to be the primary support engineer for one of these remote locations, with the opportunity for occasional site visits.

The Edinburgh team is led by an on-site team lead based in Edinburgh (who also started out their career as an intern), the remainder of the current team being one site engineer and two interns from the previous year's intake. The team's duties include the installation, diagnosis and repair, maintenance and upgrade of desktop hardware, including audio visual and telecoms equipment to ensure efficient performance. This will provide a superb opportunity to develop new skills and contacts within the technology field.

The engineer in the new role will be a catalyst to the team and must have a 'can do' demeanor and a solid evidential background in customer service. He/she will be fully supported by the rest of the Technical Support Level 2 Team.

This position is pivotal to the delivery of End User Support across the region and you will be required to trouble shoot problems in a timely fashion and provide end-user assistance either in person, by telephone or via e-mail.

In the Technical Support Level 2 Team we will team-up with all areas of the business and Technology including BlackRock Help Desk, Black Rock Solutions, Windows Server, Networks and Telecom teams.
Your role and responsibilities
  • Provide swift and professional end user IT support
  • Complete user moves and new joiner installations in the office

  • Collaborate with other support groups across global locations to help trouble shoot user issues
  • Build, pickup, update and close incidents using Service Now, our service delivery platform
  • Participate in Disaster recovery testing exercises
  • Upholding procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically supervising desktop operations
  • Write technical support and end user documentation as needed
Your skills and qualifications
  • Outstanding customer service-based approach, good interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrable ability to prioritize tasks and issues according to the business impact
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good time leadership skills
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work under stress
  • Ability to work autonomously and within team
