Position summary
Solutions Architect develops enterprise architecture models and strategies that organize and rationalize IHS Markit systems, products and information assets in order to ensure business and technology alignment. Deliverables include architecture assessments, recommendations, operational business architecture, blueprints and roadmaps, reference implementations, and technology assessments. Also provides solution architecture guidance to business and technology partners and participates in architecture governance activities.

Duties & Accountabilities
  • Works with business units to translate business strategy into discrete capabilities and helps to identify technology capability gaps in systems
  • Provides solutions and expertise to optimize cloud use based on industry best practices and internal guidelines
  • Collaborating with business units to provide a high-level, all-inclusive vision of enterprise solutions and development initiatives
  • Defining key technical initiatives that support budgets. Use cloud financial engineering practices to reduce costs through longer term planning
  • Develops and maintains an architectural blueprint and evolutionary roadmap that defines and communicates the strategic direction for these architectures in support of business and technical strategies
  • Recommends solutions and/or new technologies based upon business value drivers, proven architecture principles, patterns and return on investment
  • Defines the architectures required to implement large complex cross-functional projects
  • Understanding and communicating strategic themes, and other key business drivers for architecture, to product development teams and nontechnical stakeholders
  • Establishes overall systems architecture vision and ensures specific components are appropriately designed and leveraged; drives the holistic vision of Enterprise Architecture
  • Influencing common modeling, design, and coding practices
  • Provides transparency through well-defined metrics, automation and reporting
  • Defines the architectures required to implement large complex cross-functional projects transitioning into cloud
  • Implements architecture reference implementation and helps to enforce standards
  • Promoting Continuous Delivery and DevOps capabilities
  • Collecting generating, and analyzing innovative ideas and technologies to use across the business
  • Anticipates areas where architecture standards may need to be developed that are in-line with customer, IT and industry standards
  • Facilitating the reuse of code, components, and proven patterns
  • Synchronizing the following disciplines across Solutions whenever applicable:
    • System and data security and quality
    • Production infrastructure
    • Scalability, performance, and other Nonfunctional Requirements (NFRs)
  • Explains how the roadmap maintains and delivers cost effectiveness, business value, and competitiveness
  • Develops innovative technology approaches to solve business problems and is usually sought out as an expert, particularly for cloud architecture
  • Collaborates with Information Security teams on all cloud initiatives to continually improve the security posture
  • Experience presenting to an executive audience
  • Works directly with product development teams to accelerate adoption of native cloud capabilities
Education and experience
  • 10+ years of experience in architecture/design in relevant technology disciplines
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a Business, Financial or Technical field
  • In-depth experience on AWS, with subject experience on other cloud providers
  • In-depth experience with Microsoft technologies such as .Net, .Net Core, C#, F#
  • Experience investigating new technologies, authoring white papers and delivering presentations to senior leadership
  • Extensive knowledge of financial products, industry trends, regulatory rules in different jurisdictions and operational practices across a range of asset classes
  • Experience of working with development methodologies like Agile, Kanban, Lean
  • Extensive experience of working on mission critical systems
  • Knowledge of Networks, Database, Storage, Management Systems, services frameworks, cloud technologies
Commercial awareness
  • General understanding of the financial services industry economics, business benefits and commercial realities in delivering solutions from both as a supplier and the customer's perspectives
