CMC Markets (CMC) provides retail and wholesale CFD and Spreadbet derivative trading services across multiple markets and asset classes. Additionally, CMC provide Stockbroking services via its Stockbroking entity in Australia and Investments entity in UK.

Within this role you will work closely with the Business Operations, Corporate Tax, Development and Business Intelligence in London and overseas, as well as other key contributing stakeholders both internal and external. You will need to be hands on in exploring and understanding current business and technical processes, documenting current processes, identifying areas for improvement and managing all required change.

To be successful you will need to have hands on Tax Operations experience within the investment / wealth management sector, and business analyst experience in relation to operational tax requirements associated with a regulated investment firm.

Role and Responsibilities:

Work closely with Operations, Tax, BI and Development teams to deliver the following;

German Witholding Tax
  • Work with Vienna based development team, and UK based CRM (Pega) team, to analyse and document technical/system handling, producing technical and business specifications.
  • Prepare training / procedure documentation for all related business processes, including monthly WHT returns and error/exception handling.
  • Identify areas of improvement, in particular efficiency/automation of monthly return process. Work with key stakeholders in delivering identified improvements.

  • Develop governance framework, including policy and procedure, relating to CMC's approach to meeting its FATCA and CRS obligations for all applicable legal entities.
  • Assist in developing a data control framework (preventative and detective) that ensures completeness and accuracy of required data.

US Witholding Tax
  • Develop governance framework, including policy and procedure, relating to CMC's approach to meeting its US (IRS) WHT obligations for all applicable legal entities.
  • Review current weekly and annual reporting processes with a view to improving level of control, accuracy and efficiency of process including potential automation. Work with key stakeholders in delivering identified improvements.

Other duties include:
  • Support the business as required with regards to other tax regimes and requirements that require operational solutions, including but not limited to:

-Financial transaction tax / stamp duty - analyse and document requirements

-Dividend withholding tax - analyse and document requirements
  • For any identified system enhancements, work in conjunction with Development teams throughout design, build and test phases through to deployment.
  • Document new and updated requirements and business process to support testing, training and implementation activities to ensure the successful delivery of the business and technology solutions.
  • Maintain personal/professional development to meet the changing demands of the role, including all relevant regulatory and legislative training.
  • When dealing with all customers, clients or colleagues ensure that we provide a clear, fair and consistent high quality service that presents a professional and positive image of CMC Markets.
  • Undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may reasonably be required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this role.


  • Proven experience in an Operational Tax / Tax Business Analysis role within a regulated financial institution.
  • Experience working on projects relating to custody equity model with particular focus on corporate actions, trade lifecycle including execution and settlement, and all associated systems and services.

  • Experience of operational tax obligations with in retail or institutional trading, stockbroking or banking.
