Macquarie is seeking an individual within the Portfolio Performance Group (PPG) to support senior Directors and asset leadership teams deliver material change management programs within portfolio companies.

The Transformation & Operations Lead will work closely with internal specialists, Operating Partners and external advisors to deliver on asset specific or portfolio wide outcomes. He/She will provide advice and guidance to MAM asset teams and executives on operational underwriting, transition plan development, transformational change, cost & process optimisation, and M&A integration activities. This individual will actively engage asset teams and executives to support acquisition and operational activities, focusing on those assets undertaking significant change and/or posing the greatest risk to the portfolio.

Reporting to the Head of the PPG, the role represents a dynamic opportunity for an experienced consultant or industry operator to be a leading member of the PPGin Real Assets in EMEA.

Key Responsibilities and accountabilities for this role include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop a resource allocation and prioritisation strategy for the Transformation function; align functional efforts and ensure proper functional coverage inclusive of PPG leads, from diligence to exit.
  • Assess internal asset capabilities and define the scope for an asset Transformation leader or PMO as required.
  • Support investment teams during diligence with an expert view on operational efficiencies, organisational design, operating model and automation and corresponding impact on SG&A, OPEX and CAPEX optimisation opportunities.
  • Partner with investment teams to develop detailed implementation plans inclusive of transition activities (100-day plan) and strategic business planning templates/models
  • Build a framework to identify the most likely portfolio companies to benefit from operational intervention; determine the proper approach, required resources, and anticipated outcomes both operational and financial.
  • Standardise approach to identification, resourcing, and delivery of transformation programs.
  • Analyse and synthesise data to solve complex problems, derive "elegantly simple" solutions, and foster fact-based decision making.
  • Leverage process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, Agile, RPA) to drive operational excellence within the portfolio companies as measured by speed, productivity, capacity, accuracy, and financial outcomes (EBITDA).
  • Partner with, and mentor, management teams to develop strategic vision and roadmap to deliver value.
  • Establish proper governance methods for asset transformation programs to ensure delivery of results.
  • Provide leadership and structure for complex integration efforts during M&A and divesture/carve outs.
  • Develop a process to continuously assess asset performance and share best practices across the portfolio.
  • Build an external network of specialty consulting firms to support operational diligence and portfolio company execution needs.

The Transformation & Operations Lead will have deep experience across a variety of functional areas such as general management, growth strategy, operational excellence, and cost optimisation strategies.

In particular, he/she will have experience in driving top and bottom-line growth, driving operational improvements projects, and balancing these with short-term performance enhancement strategies, managing major operating cost transformations or customer management, merger integrations and hold PE or infrastructure portfolio experience. Sector experience is advantageous though not essential.

Ability to influence management teams and to create leverage within companies and drive change will be critical, partnered with the ability to drive practical changes on the ground, leveraging an existing network of third-party experts to support delivering outcomes and deploy analytics to improve reporting and analysis.

Desirable experience:
  • Ideally 15-20 years+ hands-on operational experience leading large-scale change initiatives across the full lifecycle of strategy, planning, requirements definition, design, and delivery
  • Direct leadership responsibility for a Transformation/Operations function in an enterprise environment
  • Demonstrated track record in a program management office environment; Lean Six Sigma experience preferred
  • Expertise across a variety of Operations & Transformation categories including leadership, operational improvements, metrics/reporting, organizational design, systems
  • Exceptional strategic planning, influencing, and communication skills (written and oral) and ability to develop influential relationships at multiple levels within an organization
  • High change agility with strong change management & stakeholder management skills.
