This role reports directly to the Head of EMEA Strategy and focuses on strategy, planning and corporate development for the EMEA Group. Specifically, this role is responsible for helping identify and evaluate strategic options of both organic and inorganic nature to further accelerate the EMEA Group's growth and scale and is critical in fostering the cross-functional coordination to support the successful execution of such.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead with Head of EMEA Strategy processes to define and regularly review the strategic direction of the EMEA business in the near-, mid-, and long-term. This includes coordinating the EMEA annual corporate plan in partnership with Group as well as supporting regionally-led business planning activities
Implement and co-ordinate EMEA exec and business unit performance management frameworks (such as OKRs), helping in the construction, tracking and communication of goals and key results therein
Identify, evaluate, plan and support the execution of EMEA strategic initiatives, with a near-term focus on geographic and business line expansion
Convert inorganic objectives into optimal target/partnership investment profiles, source and screen potential targets against those profiles and prioritize related deal execution
Co-author business and investment cases where appropriate, focusing on business and financial synergies
Support due diligence execution of potential M&A and strategic partnerships through partnering cross-functionally, and with Group Corporate Development and external advisors as appropriate
Research markets, competitors, and macro events to identify potential trends and ensure well-founded strategies
Support build out of the EMEA Strategy function. Build and continuously improve on the existing strategic and corporate planning processes; establish and apply consulting-type frameworks and tools to develop robust and concise analyses and recommendations
Coach and mentor a small but growing team of Strategy & Corporate Development professionals
Create reports, presentations and updates for the Board and Executive Management on the EMEA strategic direction and progress; produce MI and strategic risk reporting artefacts
Facilitate sessions/workshops related to strategic development with key business stakeholders across all levels of the organization to ensure robust challenge and well defined and thought out initiatives, ensuring full business engagement
Drive engagement with Group Innovation Team to identify innovation-led growth projects
Perform other ad hoc projects as required

Interfaces

Partner closely with Group Corporate Strategy, the EMEA Executive Team and senior-level stakeholders across the business in order to establish strategic options and feasibility, and promote potential strategic opportunities
Drive cross-functional engagement with teams and subject matter experts from various departments across the organization, e.g. Finance, Legal, Product, Operations, et al.
Develop and maintain external relationships with entrepreneurs, investors, investment banks, financial institutions and consulting firms to identify strategic growth opportunities
Train and supervise direct team members

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

This role requires:

A strategic thinker with strong execution skills
Significant experience in strategy, management consulting, corporate development, M&A advisory and/or in-house corporate planning, within the Financial Services or Technology industries
Bachelors degree and an MBA from a top business school or other graduate degree is preferred
Ability to think at a strategic level while simultaneously rolling up the sleeves to solve for key opportunities and problems
Demonstrated program management skills with ability to drive complex cross-functional projects E2E to completion and clearly articulate progress to executive management
Successful track record of new market entries, licensing and/or geographic expansion projects within the Financial Services industry preferred
Ability to juggle multiple projects while maintaining an impeccable judgment and attention to detail
Excellent business and financial acumen, and ability to find and use data and analysis effectively to assist in fact-based decision making
International work experience in dynamic and fast-paced environments, preferably in Silicon Valley and/or other high-growth businesses in the Financial Services and/or Technology industries
Native or bilingual in English and preferably full professional proficiency in at least one other language of EMEA key markets
Appetite/curiosity for exploration and constant update on market and industry trends and their impact on SVB's business model
Strong technical aptitude and ability to quickly learn new products, lines of business, processes, software, systems, and client needs
Ability to build strong relationships with a broad set of stakeholders across all levels within the organization as well as with key outside partners
Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
