Business Area

BlackRock's Fundamental Fixed Income (FFI) business manages more than $1 trillion in active global fixed income assets across index, actively managed, alternative, and liability driven investment strategies. The platform offers fixed income investors one of the industry's broadest array of investment solutions across model-based and fundamental investment styles.

Within FFI, the European Financial Institutions Group (FIG) is responsible for the management of $19bn of assets from a variety of Global clients and is expected to see material AUM growth in H2 2022. Asset classes managed by the European FIG team focus on Investment Grade and High Yield Corporate Bonds but include Securitised Assets, Government and Government Related Bonds and Fixed Income derivatives. BlackRock is seeking a candidate to join the Core Portfolio Management (Core PM) team with the EMEA FIG business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Working with the team to rebalance and manage portfolios for changes in market views, flows and client directed events
  • Analysing and raising orders on investment opportunities in the primary and secondary markets
  • Managing portfolios across a range of investment objectives including Total Return, Book Yield, and Buy & Maintain, whilst maintaining compliance against investment guidelines, including the monitoring of ESG exposures, and resolving any potential issues in a timely manner
  • Assisting in market research efforts and contributing to alpha generation through relative value and portfolio construction including the tracking of issuer, asset class and industry trends where relevant
  • Improving portfolio management processes through customised solutions using Python and/or other programming languages
  • Working with Product Strategy on client queries, risk and performance analysis and ensuring client directed events are implemented efficiently
  • Performing cash management processes for segregated accounts, liaising with relevant internal teams when required


Skills and Experience Required
  • Some experience in portfolio management or related role such as portfolio construction, risk management, compliance and operations, or trading, preferably related to fixed income portfolios
  • Demonstrate knowledge and passion for financial markets
  • Excellent technical skills including Excel, Bloomberg, and demonstrated proficiency in programming languages (VBA/R/Python) and handling large datasets. Aladdin knowledge would be beneficial
  • Strong process-oriented background including introduction of controls and procedures
  • Demonstrate keen awareness of operational risk issues as well as adapt quickly to changing market environments and perform under tight time constraints
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills with a diligent attention to detail
  • Effective communicator possessing strong verbal, written, visual/presentation and interpersonal communication skills. A strong work ethic with a team-focused approach.
