The Role: Manager, Cartography

The Team: The Cartography team provides extensive cartographic work for S&P Global products. We work collaboratively across geographies to create a range of basic to complex maps. The team is part of the Editorial, Design & Publishing group, which brings together news and research teams with a goal to equip our customers with the unique and essential intelligence they need to make decisions with conviction.

The Impact: This group is dedicated to delivering actionable insight to our customers across multiple industries such as Energy, Commodities, Financial Institutions, Technology and more. The Cartography team produces maps that enhance the editorial and data-driven stories in our platform through data visualization. The Cartography Manager plays an active role as a data visualization specialist and strategist responsible for driving the production of relevant and impactful maps.

What's in it for you:
  • Lead a small, global team of highly motivated cartographers in the creation of maps in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Drive and maintain best-in-class design standards and practices for cartographic products within S&P Global.
  • Leverage extensive internal data managed by our Geographic Data team and external data sources to creatively support news and research content.
  • Cultivate and promote cross-team collaboration between reporters, data analysts, editors, designers and cartographers.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage a fast-moving queue of map requests and interface with editorial content creators, cartographers and designers to ensure on-time delivery and exceptional results.
  • Continually develop cartographic style and knowledge through regular audits of cartographic products within S&P Global.
  • Cultivate advancements in cartographic knowledge among less experienced designers and cartographers through trainings and mentorships.
  • Advise and collaborate with relevant stakeholders working on sensitive topics such as disputed territories.
What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree in cartography, GIS or related field.
  • Experience managing a team of motivated cartographers.
  • Expertise in GIS software such as MAPublisher, ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro and design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and other MS Office programs.
  • Goal- and action-oriented, with the ability to organize, multi-task, work under pressure and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive, proactive attitude and ability to work well in diverse teams.
  • Knowledgeable about cartographic principles of map design, typography, spatial analysis, types of maps, map projections and data sources.
  • Superior English language skills with the ability to ask insightful questions and provide constructive feedback in both verbal and written communication as part of a global news and research organization.

Compensation/Benefits Information (This section is only applicable to US candidates) :

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $72,300.00 to $170,400.00. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographical location as well as experience and qualifications for the role.
In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.
