The Role: S&P Global Commodity Insights, a premier sector-focused news and information provider, is looking for a Senior Analyst focused on copper to join our Commodity Briefing Service team, part of the S&P Global Market Intelligence offering. In this dynamic role you will gather content relating to metal market supply and demand components concentrating on copper, and macroeconomic and market developments, analyzing this data to produce insightful forward-looking research.

Our clients include a cross section of the broader Metals, Minerals and Mining sector from mining companies, traders, vendors, consultants, regulators/governments and all those that operate within the financial and commodities markets such as Investment Banks, Investment Managers, Hedge Funds, Brokers, etc. We are a multinational organization that has built a robust franchise on data collection and standardization, layering on proprietary news and research, employing analysts, economists and geologists that are well regarded within the sector.

The Career Opportunity: In this role you will be part of a highly motivated and growing global group of analysts further expanding our footprint in the commodity space. Situated within the wider team, you will raise your presence as an authority on the copper supply chain and act as the representative of the team views. You will get exposure to product development across teams, work with experienced analysts on all aspects of the value chain, as well as gain experience on a range of other traded commodities. This will be a great platform for you to continue to grow and broaden your value professionally as the go to contact among international media and our client base.

The Team / The Business: Our Commodity Briefing Service team provides in-depth expert insight into the metals and mining sector. Able to leverage off an unsurpassed level of experience, from worldwide exploration, development and production to strategic planning and acquisitions activity - this group delivers reliable, unbiased research and analysis drawn directly from extensive industry contacts, global news and other information sources. Our high-quality products and services help clients identify, benchmark and value new business opportunities, monitor competitors and market trends, and act on strategies more confidently and efficiently.

Our Hiring Manager says: "I'm looking for someone with a curious, logical and intellectual approach to analyzing and evaluating fundamental, macro and market information with the ability to formulate and express ─ both in writing and in person ─ an accurate, cohesive and credible outlook and view. A particular interest to understand copper's role in the global energy transition will be of particular importance. You will enjoy working in a team environment contributing to broader goals and liaising with the wider metals and mining research group, but also be capable of independently developing existing services and building new areas of research".

Requirements: The ideal candidate will have experience in a copper analyst role, ideally with exposure to copper or base metals markets, be educated to degree level or above, and have an enthusiastic and keen approach to learning and developing on their existing knowledge of the copper market. Experience in building supply/demand and price forecasting models will be advantageous.

Responsibilities: Including but not limited to:
  • Modelling end-sector supply/demand for the copper supply chain
  • Assessing impacts of energy transition efforts on future copper demand
  • Researching, analyzing and publishing commentary on topical events pertinent to copper markets
  • Regular publishing and production of price forecasts
  • Participation in business development activities and external representation as required, such as at conferences or client roadshows
  • Communication on and defence of your work to clients
  • Some business travel as required
Qualifications:
  • Established experience as an analyst in the copper space, preferably with direct exposure to other base metals as well
  • Understanding of environmental, social and governance concerns pertinent to the mining industry
  • Degree educated, for example including mining finance, engineering, chemical disciplines, economics or business
  • Advanced MS Excel Skills
  • Solid numeric analytical and problem solving capabilities
The following would be advantageous but not required:
  • Experience with VBA and/or SQL programming language
