Business Unit Overview:

BlackRock's institutional business serves corporate and public sector pension funds. Our institutional clients have very specific needs that require genuine partnership. We aim to be that investment partner by listening to our clients, understanding them and by applying our investment expertise across asset classes and markets to solve their needs.

Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for owning the day-to-day relationship management of a book of assigned clients and supporting the servicing and sales support requirements of lead Account Managers on their client books. The client base comprises UK Local Government Pension Schemes and Investment Pools.

Key Responsibilities:

Sales and Relationship Management
  • Assists in identifying and managing new sales opportunities alongside senior members of the team.
  • Manages all servicing aspects for a portfolio of clients in line with the service model. Designs and delivers on appropriately created account plans, knows client book inside out, prioritises effectively, actively manages implementation of mandate changes, potential sales opportunities and defends assets at risk
  • Understands client investment strategy to ensure client intent can be represent internally
  • Partners with other internal areas of BlackRock, in particular Operations teams and Portfolio Management, to achieve effective outcomes
  • Gathers and appropriately disseminates information from consultants and clients to support sales planning/lead generation


Sales Support
  • Partners with lead Account Manager to deepen relationship with clients, their advisors, professional trustees and other key stakeholders to defend existing business and develop new sales opportunities
  • Responsible for client and consultant queries, delegating to appropriate internal teams, ownership of driving resolutions and ensuring that responses are timely and of a high quality
  • Coordination of client review meetings including the preparation of material, follow-up and support with next steps of process as appropriate
  • Proactively support lead Account Manager in adding key notes about relationship (from calls, meetings etc.) in the CRM system / incorporating into sales / account plans
  • Respond to information requests from lead Account Managers and their clients in a timely manner
  • Assist with the creation of sales/account plans for cross-selling
  • Support lead Account Manager in their efforts to invite clients to events and assist plans with lead Account Manager for client specific follow-up etc.
  • Escalation/resolution owner for client servicing issues


Other
  • Demonstrating proactivity in building in-depth knowledge of BlackRock's full product set and operational capabilities to aid query resolution and to assist with the design and delivery of external communication/reporting
  • Ad-hoc project work when required


Knowledge / Experience:
  • Degree level qualification
  • IMC holder preferred
  • Relevant experience within a similar role would be beneficial but not essential
  • Ability to build consensus and to influence both internally and externally
  • Has a good understanding of asset classes and markets including equities, fixed income, and alternatives
  • Strong track record in sales related role
  • Excellent communication skills, highly articulate and able to tailor communication style to the audience
  • Exposure to liability driven investing and advising on risk management solutions for clients previously would be an advantage
  • Able to analyse client needs and work with internal stakeholder teams to provide resolution


Skills/Competencies:
  • Broad understanding of the UK pension fund market, investment industry and competitive landscape (useful but not essential)
  • A self-starter who can proactively develop large number of deep relationships
  • Ability to prioritise and manage time, workload and projects effectively
  • Can demonstrate a strong understanding of client issues, proactively position appropriate capabilities, and offer timely solutions
  • Able to demonstrate a collaborative approach to working with peers and lead Account Managers, to share and develop ideas & approaches with a view to enhancing client relationships
  • Passion for sales, client service and learning
