The Role:
We have an exciting opportunity at M&G for a Portfolio Analyst to join a team of five investment professionals in London as well as two operational support colleagues in Mumbai. The team are seeking to hire junior support within the Portfolio Management Team in London to support with the expansion in the number of funds. Reporting into the Assistant Fund Manager the role will support the Portfolio Management team in the day-to-day portfolio management of the fund, as well as initiatives across the Private Assets and wider M&G business.

The Team:
As part of this strategic development in Private Assets, the Specialty Finance team was formed in 2018. With a team based in London and Mumbai, Speciality Finance targets investments in mortgages and consumer finance backed assets, including auto loans, student loans and unsecured personal loans.

The team is responsible for managing c.£1.5bn of internal and external client commitments and has recently launched the second vintage of its flagship levered Speciality Finance Fund, as well as a new suite of unlevered funds focused on UK and European mortgage and consumer finance assets.

Key Responsibilities for this role:
  • Assist the Portfolio Management team with oversight of investor / credit facility drawdowns, investment funding and receipts, and foreign exchange hedging
  • Support the Assistant Fund Manager in monitoring of investment performance including review of monthly and quarterly investment Servicer and Investor payment reports, updating performance dashboards and providing ad-hoc updates to team.
  • Co-ordination of the funds monthly / quarterly valuation process, including preparation of Committee materials, and oversight of internal valuation process.
  • Review of third-party Fund Administrator NAV's, including oversight of fund invoice payments, and dealing with any ad-hoc Administrator and year-end audit queries.
  • Preparation of investor marketing documents including quarterly fund reports, fund profiles and ad-hoc client reporting.
  • Ensure portfolios adhere to relevant regulation and fund mandates and ongoing development of investment processes and controls.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support internal projects within the Specialty Finance, Private Assets and wider M&G business
  • Support the deal team with new investment activity and changes.
  • To work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customers outcomes and a reduction in M&G's operational risk.


Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
  • A good understanding of investment products and the asset management industry
  • Knowledge of key asset classes (Fixed Income, FX, Derivatives and Equity)
  • Bright, enthusiastic and proactive
  • Highly numerate, logical and analytical approach
  • Ability to work under pressure, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience of managing complicated processes and focus on risk controls
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to build relationships effectively with personnel at all levels
Desirable Experience:
  • Structured finance knowledge (Mortgage / Asset Backed Securities)
  • Advanced excel skills, prior Power BI or coding experience
  • Experience of using Aladdin or other portfolio management systems
  • Basic accounting knowledge
