Job Description
Our client, a medical device manufacturer is seeking an experienced Qualified Finance Manager to improve the processes of the organisation and drive profitability.

The main focus for the Finance Manager - Operations is the provision of high quality and timely financial information to support decision making, and ultimately improve the profitability of the business.

This role will work closely with Divisional and Department Managers, but particularly the members of the Operations team, to provide a customer focused service and facilitate a two-way flow of information.

The knowledge gained will be used to improve the accuracy of financial reporting, and to develop the most efficient ways of providing Managers with the information and insight required to enable them to perform effectively. The primary focus will be on providing data to support a culture of targeted continuous improvement in Operations where opportunities are identified, and results monitored in financial terms.

The Finance Business Partner will also support the Financial Controller in ensuring that the Finance department operates efficiently, high standards of internal control are maintained, and that maximum benefit is obtained from IT systems including Epicor ERP.

Day to Day Responsibilities

People - Direct reports: One (Finance Assistant - Operations)

• Providing support and mentoring to direct report, helping them to perform effectively and develop as individuals, whilst also ensuring that adequate cover is available within the department for all routine tasks

Product

• Provision of management accounts and other financial reporting of a high quality, and which is circulated in accordance with deadlines specified by the Group Finance Director

• Attend the monthly Operations Lead Team meeting, presenting the financial results and providing financial input as necessary

• Playing an active role in the development of the Annual Operating Plan, assisting managers as necessary to streamline processes and improve data accuracy

• Assuming responsibility for the annual calculation of new standard costs for all manufactured parts, working closely with the members of the Epicor CI team to streamline processes and improve data accuracy

• Assuming responsibility for the calculation of intra group transfer prices, based upon the methodology determined by the Group Finance Director Communicating the new transfer prices to all overseas affiliates prior to the start of each financial year and circulating updated lists monthly to cover new products

• Providing support to R&D with costing of development products, and other managers with ad-hoc financial projects which require costing expertise

• Playing an active role in inventory management, ensuring that the balance sheet accurately reflects the value of stock owned by the Company

• Supporting the Financial Manager - Sales and R & D with maintenance of the Company fixed asset register, including valuations for insurance purposes

• Assisting managers with capital investment decisions and the preparation of expenditure applications, to ensure that schemes offering the best returns are put forward for approval

• Assisting managers with post completion audits of selected capital projects, to ensure that expected benefits are being realised

• Assuming responsibility for the completion of annual insurance declarations

• Providing input to the year-end accounts, including liaising with external auditors as necessary

Process

• Proactively working with managers, particularly the members of the Operations team, to improve knowledge and provide support to enable them to perform their roles effectively

• Providing local support, equivalent to one working day per week on average, at each of the two UK manufacturing sites from either the Finance Manager - Operations or the Finance Assistant - Operations

• Identification and delivery of the key financial information required to drive greater operational efficiency, working with management to realise improvements in profitability through lower manufacturing and supply chain costs

• Conduct monthly reviews of financial results with management to ensure that they are as accurate as possible, and that reasons for large variances are known, prior to circulation to the Executive Team

• Assisting in ensuring that appropriate levels of internal control are maintained within the business

• Seeking improvements in ways of working via automation and particularly utilisation of the Epicor ERP system

• Assistance with ad-hoc exercises when requested

Knowledge and Expertise

• A good knowledge of accounting, including standard costing, variance analysis, and product costing

• A good understanding of all aspects of accounting under UK GAAP

• Advanced Excel skills

• Intermediate PowerPoint and Word skills

• Good knowledge and understanding of the Epicor or other ERP system - desirable

• Good analytical skills

• An ability to identify and implement solutions to resolve problems
