The Team
The S&P DJI Index Governance (IG) team oversees a variety of analytical committees that form the backbone of S&P DJI's governance structure. The Index Committee Management Team, part of the S&P DJI Index Governance team, consists of committee chairpersons and specialists that lead the committees responsible for index methodologies and index committee oversight including membership, structure, analytical rigor, culture, and adherence to policies.

The Impact
Index Committees are an arm of the organizations' s broader Governance framework that act as oversight and decision-making bodies for all S&P DJI indices. Each committee is responsible for specific indices, based on asset class, region, or investment strategy.

What's in it for you
  • You will help chair, direct, and manage Index Committees responsible for Custom and ESG Benchmark Administration (BA) indices across asset classes including equities, fixed income, commodities futures, and other derivatives
  • In addition, you will work with others in Index Governance to prepare and implement policy that ensures compliance with various regulatory authorities as well as ensure accurate calculation and maintenance of S&P DJI indices
  • This position is a global, high-profile position collaborating with committee members and governance colleagues, as well as operations, commercial, and research groups
  • You will lead the review of index methodologies providing analytical leadership in addition to subject matter expertise on evolving policies, procedures, and industry best practices in relation to Benchmark Administration
  • You will have the opportunity to engage with clients
Responsibilities
  • Help manage and chair index committees globally that oversee custom indices across a variety of asset classes
  • Promote an environment of healthy debate among index committee members
  • Work closely with index managers and analysts to continually improve the effectiveness of index committees
  • Lead the review and approval of new BA and ESG projects from a governance perspective
  • Lead the review and approval of index rebalances and index composition changes
  • Drive the annual methodology review and methodology change processes for all indices owned by these committees
  • Participate in development, review, implementation, and training on global policies covering index methodology, announcements, and committee operations
  • Collaborate with other groups to manage partnerships and associated index committees, including periodic in-person meetings with external committees
  • Participates in assessing what are acceptable risks related to index calculation, real time calculation, and timely delivery of index levels
What We're Looking For
  • Undergraduate degree, or equivalent qualification, including finance, economics, or related academic disciplines
  • Demonstrated understanding of global financial markets, market operations, and indices
  • Practical experience in a similar role within financial services
  • Experience with, and strong knowledge of, fixed income, equities, derivatives, and ESG indices
  • Well-rounded knowledge of the steps in index construction including security selection, constituent weighting, calculation, and maintenance
  • Strong understanding of how indices are used and the impact of different methodologies on both indices and financial portfolios.
  • Proven leader, skill managing group dynamics, and ability to apply decision-making frameworks
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, ability to evaluate and assess complex topics and creatively problem-solve
  • First class communication skills - easily able to explain index procedures and calculations to a broad audience including exchange partners, clients, and regulators
  • Strong attention to detail and work ethic
  • Willingness to travel
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people, often in demanding situations
  • Advanced Excel
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree MA / MS / MBA, or equivalent qualification, level in business, economics, maths, finance or similar areas
  • CFA Charter holder or progress toward CFA Charter
  • Knowledge of Matlab and / or Python
