Your role
About us
We want your empirical research skills to help Investment Research teams make better stock recommendations.

UBS Research is one of the most dynamic, innovative investment research departments in the world. We are pioneering a transformational approach that we believe will take investment research to a different level.
This approach places empirical scientific techniques at the core of the financial analysis that we do.

Would you like to be part of this transformation?

Your role

You will be managing targeted collaborations with Investment analysts. You will bring expertise in research design and statistical analysis, and they will bring subject matter expertise. Together you will generate insights to inform novel investment theses.

We're looking for a Research/Data Scientist to:

• Collaborate closely with stock analysts to apply hypothesis-driven empirical research methods
• Assist analyst teams in extracting insights from a broad array of observational data.
• Identify investable hypotheses in areas where you are not the subject matter expert
• Communicate effectively with stock analysts, who are expert in financial analysis and not empirical research methods
• Help to establish replicable statistical computing workflows and habits in the analyst teams
• Guide a team of junior empirical scientists as they transition from academia into investment research Your team
You'll be working in the Empirical Scientific Approaches (Global Research) team in London. This is an opportunity to be part of a dynamic, creative, globally distributed team positioned at the center of one of the top equity research departments in the world. Our goal is to empower analysts with the skills to bring scientific approaches to their investment narratives, enabling them to provide differentiated insights and novel ideas to their clients.

Your expertise
• Ideally 5-10 years' experience designing and executing hypothesis-driven empirical research projects. Experience in an investment research setting or other commercial enterprise would be a major plus.
• A demonstrated track record of writing effectively in English for a non-technical audience about social science research designs and statistical analysis.
• Masters' or Doctoral degree with significant training in a social science (microeconomics, quantitative sociology, behavioral science, political science, etc)
• Significant experience or formal training in coding with R or Python, and an ability to work in MS Excel
• Intellectual curiosity and excellent communication skills
• A demonstrated track record of being able to communicate and collaborate across extremely long distances, using asynchronous (GitLab / JIRA / etc) and remote synchronous (Zoom / Slack / Teams / etc) collaboration tools.
