Job Description: Senior Specialist, Governance and Fair Taxation.

Reporting into the Director of Governance, the Senior Specialist is responsible for delivering cross-cutting programme of work on tax fairness, and where relevant, supporting the wider governance programme in terms of work on responsible political engagement, corporate purpose, and on key areas of corporate governance.

The role has responsibility for delivering key initiatives and for the development of analysis and guidance, working with teams across the organisation to deliver first class and consistent content to signatories.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Strong experience in Governance, particularly on responsible tax practices, and foster deep subject matter expertise across the organisation and client base.
  • Experienced in the providing guidance and stewardship in developing the next phase of organisational work on tax fairness
  • Be a spokesperson for the organisation at events, with the press, or other senior level contact and exchanges
  • A natural interest in market developments, to build into the working environment and building on existing career experience
  • Maintain open exchange and dialogue with key stakeholders, including private clients, think tanks and research institutes, NGOs and initiatives that contribute to and are aligned with the organisations strategic objectives
  • Work collaboratively across different teams on investment practices, stewardship, policy, data and disclosure to build in-depth understanding and deliver quality resources to signatories on tax fairness
  • Professionally manage specific investor initiatives relevant to key governance issues, including managing working groups / communities of practice where relevant
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to more junior members of the team, including sharing technical knowledge and expertise where appropriate
  • Support the Director of Governance in delivering against the team's business plan and budget
  • Provide regular reporting to Directors and the Leadership Team as required

Technical Competencies & Experience:
  • Experience working in ESG and/or sustainability teams, with a particular focus on governance issues and their relevance for companies and investors
  • Strong subject matter expert on responsible tax practices, governance issues and corporate governance, and understanding of the interplay between those issues and related investment practices
  • Proven track record of producing research and analysis on sustainability issues, and responsible investment for investors and corporations
  • Excellent written communication and verbal presentation skills. Ability to foster an inclusive working environment
  • A collaborative and consultative approach to working with others, able to take ownership of challenges and see them through to resolution.
  • Excellent networking, relationship management and interpersonal skills. Ability to forge long-term relationships with industry leaders and drive decision-making in diverse, multi-stakeholder groups.
  • Strong programme management skills, with experience in designing projects and delivering successfully through others by providing timely and constructive advice to teams on their objectives and performance
  • IT/system skills (Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint, CRM, social media, webinars, podcasts, etc.)
  • As this is a global role, international travel may be required
  • Language skills, other than English, are desirable
