What does Community Affairs do

Nomura's EMEA Community Affairs programme is focused on supporting disadvantaged and underrepresented young people in the local communities in which we operate. Nomura takes a strategic approach to Community Affairs, predominately directing our efforts towards a key strategic charity partnership which delivers the most meaningful and sustainable impact.

With support from all levels of the business, Community Affairs EMEA delivers a range of social impact initiatives, predominately focused on social mobility and employability, which aims to change the lives of young people in our local communities.

The Corporate Communications department is the central function that co-ordinates the internal and external communications activities of Nomura in EMEA to safeguard its corporate reputation. The team is made up of four functions; Media Relations (covering corporate and business media relations), Internal Communications, Community Affairs and Brand Marketing.

What you'll do

Working in a busy Corporate Communications department, you'll oversee Nomura's Community Affairs programme in the EMEA region. You'll report directly into the Head of Corporate Communications, EMEA, Americas, and work closely with the Head of Internal and External Communications, EMEA, as well as other senior internal stakeholders, to lead on the development, communication, planning, management, evaluation and reporting of the Community Affairs function.

Day-to-day, you will be:

  • Managing the EMEA Community Affairs strategy for 2023/2024 and clearly communicating the key objectives to the team


  • Managing the Community Affairs team, comprising a Community Affairs Analyst and Programme Manager seconded from our strategic Charity Partner


  • Managing the EMEA Community Affairs budget including monitoring and approving expenditure within certain limits


  • Managing senior internal stakeholders to secure support for all strands of the Community Affairs programme


  • Managing registered charity and separate company, The Nomura Charitable Trust, including the charity's liquidation strategy, Board meetings, administration and Trustee relationships


  • Overseeing the delivery of the Community Affairs strand of EMEA's strategic charity partner (specifically skilled volunteering and fundraising), including line-management of the in-house Programme Manager


  • Working closely with the strategic charity partnership Working Group, including Head of DEI, Head of Graduate Recruitment and other senior stakeholders to develop and report on partnership strategy


  • Overseeing and approving the firm's employee engagement activities and communications campaigns delivered in support of Community Affairs, including line-management of the Community Affairs Analyst who delivers on this


  • Managing EMEA's disaster response activities, including emergency fundraising campaigns, internal communications and co-ordination with global counterparts


  • Managing Nomura's Give As You Earn and donation matching programmes


  • Liaising regularly with global counterparts to collaborate and share best practice


  • Identifying opportunities to receive recognition and external endorsement of the Community Affairs programme through a calendar of industry awards


  • Overseeing and delivering regional and global reporting analytics related to Community Affairs impact


The skills you'll need:

We'll be looking for you to have extensive experience leading community impact programmes in a complex matrix organisation. You will have an excellent understanding of and interest in social mobility and/or employability and other social issues as well as the business rationale behind corporate community involvement and the wider CSR agenda.

We'll be looking for you to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on detail. You'll feel comfortable managing relationships across all levels of the business, including Board level stakeholders.

You'll also demonstrate:
  • Experience managing charity fundraising campaigns
  • Experience leading corporate volunteering programmes
  • Experience of coordinating, communicating and evaluating Community Affairs programmes
  • Experience managing GAYE programmes and/or the Charities Aid Foundation
  • Grant making experience and knowledge of Trust/Foundation administration
  • A demonstrable history of successful event planning and delivery
  • Experience and/or understanding of the Financial Services industry
  • Ability to be flexible and multi-task on a daily basis, managing ongoing projects as well as ad-hoc issues that demand immediate attention
