The Role:

Internal Audit's mission is to provide independent, reliable and objective assurance to the Board, Executive Committee and Audit Committee on the overall effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes across the organisation; and provide robust challenge to help CEO deliver the company's strategy effectively.
Over the past 6 years, Internal Audit has created a market-leading data analytics capability that supports Internal Audit by identifying unique data-driven insights through the analysis of complex internal and external datasets. In addition, the team acts as the preeminent source of expertise in the field of data analytics and is regularly called upon by the Business to provide expert guidance and consultancy on the application of data analytics and data science to solve business problems.
Having firmly established and embedded the capability, the team is improving the sophistication of the analytical techniques and tools it uses. We use wide range of technologies including Microsoft Azure Databricks, SQL 2017, Python, R and Power BI. The team consists of data scientists, database specialists, BI and data analysts.
We are seeking a talented data analyst with the skills to play a pivotal role in this exciting stage of the teams development.

Key Work Level Accountabilities:

Experienced Colleague:
  • Accountable for providing a quality service or product to customers and stakeholders, using skills/experience built through significant practical experience or training
  • For team leaders, accountable for ensuring the team the role supports is delivering a quality service or product
  • Works within established frameworks and procedures, with the freedom to interpret them to solve a range of problems
  • Delivers outputs that are clearly defined, using discretion over how to achieve them
  • Makes suggestions for improvements to the work of the team, based on previous experience and knowledge of similar situations

Key Responsibilities and Knowledge required for the role:

  • Hands-on technical experience analysing large and complex datasets using databases and analytic software.
  • Working experience in business environment of 3 years and above. Experience in insurance/asset management/financial services is preferred.
  • Degree and/or relevant professional qualification e.g. data analytics, business analytics, computer science, engineering, etc.
  • A strong working knowledge of SQL. Strong programming mindsets. Experience with Python or R is a plus but not essential.
  • Experience of data analysis and data visualisation using market visualisation tools e.g. Power BI.
  • Strong Excel skills. VBA is a plus.
  • Experience of data modelling techniques e.g. clustering, regression, machine learning, text analytics, predictive modelling is a plus.
  • Experience of Databricks and Microsoft Azure is a plus.
  • A genuine passion for working with data to solve business problems.
  • Understanding of audit process and appreciation of risks/controls is a plus.

Personal Skills:

  • As this role will face off to a wide variety of Stakeholders including Senior Executives, a professional demeanour and excellent communication skills are essential. Ability to explain highly technical subjects to non-technical audience is a must.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities is essential in the fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent sense of organisation, initiative and prioritisation of objectives, with the ability to balance multiple projects and other responsibilities.
  • As this role will face off to a wide variety of Stakeholders including Senior Executives, a professional demeanour and excellent communication skills are essential. Ability to explain highly technical subjects to non-technical audience is a must.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities is essential in the fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent sense of organisation, initiative and prioritisation of objectives, with the ability to balance multiple projects and other responsibilities.
