Job Description

Our accountants are influential. They are a part of a team that plays a key role in crafting the Aviva of the future; they influence the decisions we make, the policies we produce and the way we work.

You don't need to have studied Accountancy at university to become an Accountant at Aviva - we truly believe new insights and perspectives are invaluable. So whatever your degree, as long as you are curious, customer focused and passionate about learning, we can teach you the rest!

Your role, more specifically:

You'll train with us for three years, soaking up information from our specialists - but of course, we hope you stay with us for years to come as so many of our colleagues do! You will do three, one-year placements across different finance teams, including Financial Reporting & Controls, Business Partnering and Taxation and Investments. In other words, with us you'll become a fully qualified accountant, a leader in the making and you'll hold the qualification and hands-on experience to launch your career.

What's in it for you?
  • A permanent job from day one
  • A starting salary of £30,600, with regular increases to recognise exam success
  • ICAEW qualification (a Level 7 qualification equivalent to a master's degree) with exams paid for by Aviva
  • Up to 50 days of paid study leave
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • 29 days holiday, plus bank-holidays
  • Discounts on all Aviva products
  • Annual performance-related bonus
  • Share Save scheme
  • Flexible working and wellbeing support

What do we look for?
  • You will either already have a degree in any subject or be on track to graduate by the end of Summer 2023 with a minimum 2:1 expected or acheived
  • An aptitude for numbers and a passion for business, finance and insurance
  • The confidence and determination to lead
  • Fantastic people skills
  • A creative, agile mind
  • The initiative and drive to get things done

Where will you be based?

During your training, your office base will be in either Norwich or York. They are beautiful, buzzing towns in which to embark your career and once you've qualified, you will have the chance to broaden your horizons in any of our offices around the UK or maybe even further afield.

At Aviva, we ask our teams to think about when they work in the office and when they choose to work at home. This will vary depending on your role and your personal circumstances. We call this Smart Working. This will vary depending on your role and your personal circumstances but 3 days in the office, and 2 days from home is a very typical example. When you move to each new assignment, take time to discuss this with your Leader and agree what works for you, the business and the organisation. As we do this office/home blend you will need to live in commutable distance to one of the locations listed above.

About Us

We're a leading international insurance, savings, retirement and investment business. When the worst happens, we're here to put the wrongs right.

You might be thinking that we're just another boring, corporate firm. But we don't all wear suits and shiny shoes here. We're proud to be different and just like our customers, our people are a mix of cultures, genders and ages.

Like the sound of us? Then we like the sound of you.

Press 'apply' to be taken through to our online application, where you'll answer a short questionnaire about your motivations. You'll also be able to attach your CV. If you match our criteria, we'll ask you to complete our Situational Strengths and Numerical Reasoning tests. Pass those and next will be a video interview. The final stage is a virtual assessment day, with tasks that enable you to show us what you're good at and what you enjoy.

Impress us there and we'll offer you a role to start in September 2023.

Additional Information

Aviva is for everyone:

We are inclusive - we want applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Excited but not sure you tick every box? Research tells us that women, particularly, feel this way. So, regardless of gender, why not apply. And if you're in a job share just apply as a pair. We flex locations, hours and working patterns to suit our customers, business, and you.

Most of our people are smart working - spending around 60% of their time in our offices and 40% at home.

We interview every disabled applicant who meets the minimum criteria for the job. During your application there will be an opportunity for you send us an email stating that you have a disclosed disability, and we'll interview you.

We'd love it if you could submit your application online. If you require an alternative method of applying, please send an email to avivaearlycareers@aviva.com.
