The Role Responsibilities
Strategy
  • This role is an important role within the European Finance team supporting the Client Coverage (CC) CCIB Business across the region together with managing Performance reporting.
  • The role involves partnering the various business heads, the Regional CEOs and all the Group functions and business teams across our Global footprint to understand, manage and drive the complex business and operations within Europe.
  • The role requires engagement of senior leaders within the CC business in Europe, Finance professionals in Europe and Singapore, where the global business heads are based and more broadly across the CCIB and Europe Management team in.
  • Our presence in Europe is key to connecting our footprint markets of Asia, Africa and the Middle East with the West through offering global support as the centre of excellence for product and segment teams as well as being a major hub for funding, capital and liquidity.
Business
  • The role is a broad role supporting the Client Coverage business across the UK and Europe
Processes
  • Monitoring, understanding and challenging of business performance on both a management and origination lens.
  • Developing and maintaining an appropriate MIS reporting infrastructure produced by the offshore team to assist in the assessment of business performance.
  • Manage the month end process covering Revenue, BS and RWA.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, influencing and challenging the business/top-down submissions by product and segment.
  • Provision of advisory support with respect to development of strategic plans / annual business plans and new product development
  • Develop and enhance relationships with other CCIB Finance teams within the Group to ensure consistency of support, approach and knowledge sharing.
  • Input into the development, maintenance and enhancement of management reporting tools for Balance Sheet, Risk Weighted Asset and Customer Profitability reporting.
  • Involvement in UK and Global Finance projects.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, including the migration of activities to off-shore support teams
  • Review and enhance financial controls to minimise finance operational risk.
  • Understand data and key drivers of business performance for the region, including revenues, costs, balance sheet and risk weighted assets.
  • Create and own analysis of performance metrics, both historical and forecast, including trends and comparisons.
  • Work with Europe business finance teams to build storylines around trends and drivers, in line with regional and business strategy.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • Qualified Accountant - ACA / ACCA / CIMA desirable
  • Strong knowledge of CCIB Banking products, as well as a background in financial and management reporting within the financial services sector.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Good communication / business partnering skills combined with maturity and confidence to deal with senior business management and third parties.
  • Strong organisational skills, flexibility with a sense of materiality and decision-making capability.
Role Specific Competencies
  • Covers management reporting to Group, Country Manco and Group/Local Business heads. This includes preparation and review of budgets, forecasts, inputs to business strategies, cost management and investment spend decision making.
  • Describes the key Group, Business Management Reporting principles, Group Accounting policies, reporting systems and processes.
  • Performs set processes such as preparing a standard report, running a database query, entering manual inputs to the management pack.
  • Performs the first check on data integrity according to set quality assurance processes.
  • Prepares standardized inputs to reporting packs including a basic reconciliation of Financial to Management books.
  • Explains the Performance Management framework and tools to new joiners including customer and product segmentation, management accounting principles, process and rationale for management reallocations, forecast and budget process.
  • Assesses impact within the role of any changes in management accounting principles.
  • Prepares performance management reports and performs basic analysis.
  • Identifies situations where the appropriate management accounting reporting policy should be applied or where it has been applied incorrectly.
  • Recognizes good business performance from poorer performance using an objective data driven approach.
  • Implements data controls verifying the integrity of reporting schedules with the General Ledger and associated Transaction Processing systems.
  • Assesses the context, rationale and impact of management accounting policies and is able to articulate them to Finance and business/ function stakeholders.
  • Applies critical principles and procedural knowledge of the policies to practical revenue sharing/ cost allocation situations of a routine nature.
  • Analyzes and models the impact of new rules on operations and reporting systems after engagement with key stakeholders impacted by the changes.
  • Resolves tactical challenges and conflicts between businesses and support functions in budgeting and cost management.
  • Leads in coordinating budget and forecast process, engaging with stakeholders and identifying and escalating risks and opportunities in the forward projections.
  • Provides insightful commentary on reporting packs and specialized schedules, including business variance analysis linking current performance with future projections, business momentum, risks and opportunities.
  • Recognized as credible source of data and query management on daily business and performance issues for business stakeholders.
  • Takes ownership of the end-to-end management/ business reporting process including responsibility for coordination within Finance Units to deliver the reporting requirements.
  • Plays an integral part in re-engineering and standardizing end to end reporting processes for maximizing efficiency, utilising automation where appropriate and ensuring data integrity.
