Head of Investment Risk Oversight

Responsibilities:

The purpose of this role is the oversight of the company's investment risk management controls and providing investment risk analysis (including 2nd opinion on investment strategies and mandates). Overall responsibility for advice, monitoring, planning, and reporting of risk. The role requires an individual with detailed knowledge of investment risk and UK financial services regulation.

• Provide leadership for the Risk team and contribute to the overall leadership capability and initiatives within the company.

• Maintain effective independent management and oversight of the controls used to risk-manage asset and liability investment strategy and execution with particular focus on the role of derivatives.

• Work with the Investment team to oversee and challenge the onboarding and controls of new additions to the portfolio (strategies, investments, instruments, counterparty, fund managers)

• Manage and oversee the Investment Risk Oversight team.

• Maintain fit for purpose oversight procedures for the investment risk activities, covering all types of Investment Risk.

• Monitor the company's adherence to Investment Risk policies and procedures.

• Lead Investment Risk Oversight Team

• Ensure the risk management framework and corresponding processes are fit for purpose, in compliance with regulatory requirements and best practice.

• Ensure that investment activities are performed in a robust risk-controlled environment in accordance with the Scheme requirements and constraints.

• Lead the company's strategy for risk management framework, controls framework and risk appetite methodology.
• The Head of Investment Risk Oversight is responsible for maintaining effective oversight of the management controls implemented to risk-manage the implementation and risk outcomes of the asset and liability strategy. There is a particular focus on the role of complex derivatives and being able to assess the control framework and deliver investment risk analysis. This includes working with the Executive leadership team and Investment team to develop, implement, maintain and report against the control framework.
• Oversight of the provision of daily risk metrics and associated systems, and exposure monitoring
• Monitoring adherence to the investment risk arrangements and overseeing the Investment Risk Oversight team's support to other functional units to ensure that asset liability risk management controls operate as required.
• Provide independent 2nd opinion on investment strategies and mandates.

Skills:

• Extensive understanding of derivative products / instruments and their use in an asset/liability context
• Extensive understanding of performance and attribution
• Substantial portfolio risk and control experience
• Substantial experience of model validation
• Experience of Pensions Funds and Pensions Regulations desirable but not essential as this experience can be gained within the company
• Experience of FCA compliance, working knowledge of the relevant rules and regulations and the fund management industry
