Department overview:

The Group Data Office plays a key role in defining and implementing the firm's data strategy, driving transformational change through data capabilities, enforcing data governance for both transformation benefit and regulatory compliance, and elevating Nomura's data culture. Governance remains a critical focus area, and the Group Data Office, in partnership with Business and Corporate functions, is responsible for ensuring that the firm's data assets are managed in line with the firm's data management framework, policy and standards.

Role description:

The Group Data Office operates a globally federated data governance model, with oversight performed by a central global team. The Data Governance Analyst will be a member of the Group Data Office's central global team and will be responsible for the following:
  • Work with regional governance leads and data stewards and custodians to ensure data assets conform with data management framework requirements, with a focus on continued improvement of data quality and adherence to use of Trusted sources
  • Develop, prepare and manage materials and content for key governance committees, covering areas such as data initiatives, data issues management, and KPIs (data governance, data quality)
  • Contribute to the automation and digitalisation of Group Data Office data governance operating model and activities


Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
  • Operational familiarity with metadata management, data quality, data stewardship, data protection and experience in the use of associated technologies (data catalog, data quality management platforms)
  • Working knowledge of Cloud based big data frameworks such as data lake, relational, Graph and other no-SQL databases
  • Proficient in use of MS Office Tools, Confluence, Tableau, Alteryx; and hands-on familiarity (beginner level) with Python or R (any one tool)
  • Willingness to work with senior stakeholders on data & digital transformation journeys of their teams..
  • Excellent communication (verbal, written, listening) and interpersonal skills
  • Able to analyse complex situations and derive workable actions
  • Able to constructively challenge requirements and current state to increase overall value to the firm
  • Ability to understand and integrate cultural differences and work effectively with virtual cross-cultural, cross-border teams
  • Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and rapid change
  • Keen eye for detail and able to produce high quality content
  • Hands on operational and change management


Education and experience

Wide variety of degrees will be considered, however work experience will be of equal, if not greater importance
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in data governance / operational data management in a large, complex organisation
  • Track record in in developing and operationalising data framework requirements, notably policies, procedures, and standards
  • Experience of working with a multi-cultural, multi-disciplined, globally dispersed team
  • DCAM certification advantageous
