Upstream oil & gas consulting in Europe, CIS and Africa delivers advisory services to public and private sector clients, focused in the areas of strategy, new ventures, commercial and techno-economic assessments. We are looking for a Senior Consultant to join the team in London (or one of several other possible locations within the Europe/CIS/Africa region).

Successful Candidates for this role should have 3-7 years of financial modelling and economics experience in upstream oil & gas, energy industry, banking or management consulting.

In this role, you will contribute to project delivery as a subject matter expert in petroleum economics, upstream fiscal regimes, financial/economic modelling and analysis. The candidate will leverage wealth of in-house data and expertise to develop bespoke insights for clients along the energy value chain, with primary focus on upstream. The nature of the projects will include strategy definition, opportunity screening, market and investment analysis, performance and fiscal benchmarking, due diligence and valuation, as well as support with oil and gas industry energy transition and decarbonization strategies. Clients include various stakeholders along the energy value chain: oil and gas producing companies, regulators, governments, services companies, technology providers and financial investors.

Successful candidates will prefer working with people as part of a dynamic global team tackling important industry challenges in upstream and energy transition that are complex or ill-defined, seeing the 'big picture' while also delving into the details, performing data analytics, synthesizing information, and developing/communicating a compelling story.

Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to consulting project delivery on topics relating to financial/economic modelling and analysis of petroleum economics and upstream fiscal regimes
  • Build bespoke valuation models (predominantly in MS Excel), QAQC and improve existing models, and generate a set of economic indicators and outputs under various scenarios in support of clients' decision making, covering individual energy investment opportunities, assets, portfolios of assets
  • Identify data requirements, gather, synthesize, analyze and incorporate data requirements for economic modelling, ranging from sub-surface to costs, macroeconomics, and hydrocarbon price assumptions
  • Deliver robust quantitative and qualitative analysis of economic outputs in support of clients' complex decision-making processes, including A&D, business development, and strategy definition
  • Develop high quality reports and insightful presentations for senior audiences in client organizations
  • Support team with business development, proposal generation and development of methodologies for consulting project execution
  • Collaborate with the global consulting team and energy groups across S&P Global to leverage in-house content and capabilities for clients' needs
What We're Looking For:
  • Candidates should have 4-7 years of energy industry experience acquired in oil and gas operator organizations, banking or management consulting
  • Strong subject matter expertise in financial modelling and valuation, petroleum economics, petroleum fiscal regimes.
  • Demonstrated track record and hands-on experience of building economic valuation models for upstream oil & gas projects and related midstream segments, assets, portfolios / companies
  • High proficiency in Excel and the ability to manage large datasets; knowledge of VBA is strongly preferred
Required Education and Language Skills:
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Data Sciences, and/or related engineering or sub-surface disciplines. Master's degree is preferred.
  • Fluent in the English language. Knowledge of French or Portuguese is a plus.
Other Skills and Behaviours:
  • Strong fundamental understanding of energy markets and energy value chain.
  • Previous consulting experience is strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to pull together complex multi-strand analysis into broad trends and insights, and relate these to the critical issues facing the client.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter with strong work ethic
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and efficiently in a team-oriented environment with cross-discipline team members located in different locations and time zones
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office, in particular Excel, PowerPoint, Word
  • Prior experience with and knowledge of S&P (legacy IHS Markit) tools, products and offerings is preferred, in particular QUE$TOR, Vantage, PEPS.
