Overview:

The role sits within the Control & Oversight function, a team which is fast-paced, dynamic and constantly evolving in line with industry-wide requirements. The team is split across London and Powai (India), with primary responsibility to identify, assess, monitor and manage the EMEA Finance Risk and Control Framework. This role reports directly to the Head of Control and Oversight for EMEA Finance.

In this role you will provide direct oversight of the GMO Risk and Control Framework, ensuring controls are adequately designed, implemented and monitored. You will work closely with the EMEA Head of GMO, and their direct reports. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Active engagement and independent challenge at weekly KRI meetings for Flow, Structured and Collateral asset classes.
  • Provide risk oversight and 1.5LoD challenge over the extensive suite of GMO Key Risk Indictors "KRI's"
  • Maintain effective governance and reporting of the weekly GMO Operating Committee meeting. Includes oversight of the production of meeting material as well as chairing the meeting
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of GMO risks and issues and overseas completion of action requests
  • Challenging existing approaches by identifying, recommending and delivering on areas of improvement relating to the GMO risk and control framework
  • Provide subject matter expertise relating to all Non-Financial Risk matters, this includes 2nd and 3rd LoD observations and requests associated with GMO.
  • Provide support to London and Powai team members when required, this may include performing Balance Sheet and Regulatory Return, Quality and Assurance reviews
  • Provide support to the Head of EMEA Finance Control & Oversight, on key risk and control issues and initiatives, when required. This may include risks and issues outside of the GMO Department.


Key objectives critical to success:
  • Substantial knowledge and a strong understanding of Banking processes, front to back, with extensive experience in Finance.

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
  • A passion for process improvement and transformation
  • Enquiring mind-set, always seeking to fully understand a risk or an issue
  • Confident in challenging senior stakeholders
  • A control mind-set is essential, together with superior analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Knowledge of Power Bi is useful but not essential.
  • Ability to be flexible when required
  • Self-starter, proactive big picture thinker
  • Good organisational skills; ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously and deliver to tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written as well as presentation skills
  • Advanced degree preferred in accounting, finance or business administration
  • Good understanding of SOX controls and risks that effect GMO
  • Solid interpersonal skills
