The Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen in the M&G Real Estate Tax team for a VAT Specialist to look after real estate indirect tax advisory and related VAT compliance obligations, working alongside the Senior VAT Manager who looks after the group's global real estate business.

The Opportunity
An opportunity has arisen in the M&G Real Estate Tax team for a VAT Specialist to look after real estate indirect tax advisory and related VAT compliance obligations, working alongside the Senior VAT Manager who looks after the group's global real estate business.
Your responsibilities will be...
- Supervision and monitoring of the work carried out by internal Tax Compliance team and third party providers including;
- Reviewing the quarterly VAT numbers and EC Sales list entries for the real estate business and providing these to the M&G VAT team for incorporation in to the M&G Group Vat Return.
- Monitoring and maintenance of the RPA (Robotic Process Automation) solution which produces returns for our special purpose vehicles and funds.
- Review of the SPV returns prepared by Tax Compliance team and third party providers
- Review and confirmation of real estate Annual Adjustment or Capital Goods Scheme calculations for incorporation in to the M&G Group Annual Adjustment.
- Ensuring payments are made within the statutory deadlines, or monitoring for payments receivable.
- Manage provision of key technical advice for property transactions from third party advisers, challenging as necessary
- Providing VAT advice and support on ad hoc projects, notifying and liaising with other members of M&G Tax, ensuring external advisors are engaged at the right time.
- Ensure that transaction advice is turned into operational reality, designing controls, guiding relevant colleagues and appointing, scoping and overseeing provision of support from third party service providers where necessary.
- Development and maintenance of internal controls and testing in support of SAO and other regulatory requirements
- Summarise and recommend adjustments and changes with the VAT Senior Manager
- Identifying and implementing improvements to the VAT process, including working with business analysts and IT to develop systems to accurately record and report VAT information.
- Developing expertise in advising on UK and international Real Estate acquisitions and disposals and related transactions under supervision of Senior Vat Manager.
- Preparation of voluntary disclosures, where required, and assisting with tax authority queries/visits/audits.
- Identifying and reporting areas of operational risk to VAT Senior Manager
- Help to provide training and on-going support to asset and investment managers, Finance teams and outsourced providers to ensure they have a basic level of understanding of VAT and know what to watch out for from a VAT perspective when they carry out their role
- Drawing up and maintenance of guidance for Finance and the wider business to ensure VAT is correctly calculated, recorded and reported.
- Support VAT Senior Manager in the preparation of VAT MI data and develop robust processes for collation, analysis and dissemination
- Identify and propose creative opportunities for innovation and efficiency for the business in dealing with its VAT responsibilities
- Support VAT Senior Manager in regular communication and meeting with HMRC, to manage and maintain our positive relationship
- Work with VAT Senior Manager to represent M&G, where appropriate, at industry bodies and other representative organisations
- Keep up to date on VAT changes and Case Law developments and understand the implications for M&G.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for you to ideally have an accounting or tax qualification with post qualified experience. It will be an advantage for you to have strong VAT knowledge, preferably in respect of a property or partly exempt business.
- Self-motivated with a diligent and detailed approach to completing tasks.
- Strong numeracy and analytical skills. Able to understand, question and challenge a range of financial data.
- Accounting skills preferable but not essential.
- Confidence to communicate effectively with a range of internal and external parties on a range of complex technical matters.
- Awareness of real estate business, transactions, and commercial matters.
- Flexible and proactive approach.
- This will be a highly visible role so requires someone with an approachable personality, strong focus and first class communication skills.
- IT skills and an ability to analyse systems will be of benefit.
- Knowledge of Yardi Voyager accounting system an advantage.
