Associate - Insurance Ratings (London)

The Role: As an Associate, you will be responsible for a portfolio of rating relationships and participate in the credit evaluation of Insurance companies mainly in the UK. Your responsibilities will include meeting some of the largest insurers in the region and clearly communicating our views on the credit story to issuers, investors, and intermediaries. Working within this regulated industry also involves keeping abreast of regulations in the markets we serve and respecting our policies and guidelines.

The Impact: As an analyst you have the opportunity to learn from and influence the fast-moving capital markets via the credit opinions and market research that we publish. You will also have the opportunity to engage with senior management at the Insurers that we serve and build independent views that feed into rating committee decisions.

Responsibilities:
  • Analyzing information and data for determining ratings on insurance companies and their debt issues
  • Making recommendations and presenting to rating committees
  • Drafting press releases, company-specific reports, and industry commentaries in a fast-paced environment with publication deadlines
  • Effectively communicating to clients S&P Global Ratings' methodology and procedures
  • Continuous monitoring of operating performance of rated companies, including reviews of public filings and private information supplied by issuers, and participation in client meetings
  • Meeting with issuers and investors on analytical matters and assisting in serving clients' analytical needs
  • Contributing to S&P Global Ratings' global and regional analytical sectoral forums, and writing relevant and timely commentaries
  • Once you join us, you are also expected to update your skills in relevant areas as the need arises.
Your Skills:
  • You will ideally have prior credit analytics experience covering the non-life, life insurance and reinsurance sectors.
  • Strong ability to understand and analyze financial statements of insurance companies
  • Possess a good understanding of financial and capital markets, business environments, and relevant insurance regulations in the U.K.
  • Ability to undertake rigorous analytical work and be proficient at writing analytical reports
  • Strong communication skills in English are required for this client-facing role.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills
  • A highly motivated team player who can work autonomously in a global, multi-cultural and fast pace environment
  • An S&P Global employee at this level would typically have 3 to 5 years' analytical experience.
Qualifications:
  • Our analysts would ordinarily have a Bachelor degree
  • It would be preferable for you to have an actuarial background, accounting degree/qualification and/or CFA qualification.
Grade Level: Grade 11 (for internal purposes)
