About this role

Team Overview:

The EMEA ER team, within the Global Employee Relations function, is responsible for making sure that the treatment of employees is aligned with BlackRock's core values and objectives. This includes proactively managing operational employee risk, and providing expert advice and guidance regarding escalated employee relations matters in the EMEA region. This ER leadership role is experienced in conducting investigations and managing complex performance and disciplinary matters, including managed exits, to ensure fair, equitable, thorough and timely treatment is applied throughout all ER matters.

The Role:

Working in close partnership with EMEA and Global HR Business Partners and reporting to the Global Head of Employee Relations, you will be responsible for providing strategic ER support to BlackRock for the EMEA region. You will:
  • Manage a team of ER professionals across the EMEA region, separated into investigations and advisory team members
  • Serve as an escalation point to the EMEA ER and HRBP teams on complex issues and investigations
  • Coordinate EMEA investigations aligned with Global Investigations ER team
  • Utilizes strong project management skills to ensure execution of key initiatives
  • Drive direct leadership and site engagement initiatives to ensure strong employee communication channels and engagement processes are in place regionally
  • Manage ER cases including disciplinary issues, grievances, interpersonal employee conflicts, performance management concerns, involuntary exits (including redundancies), sensitive and/or high-risk leaves of absence, and other employee-related matters to successful resolution
  • Assist with project management of reorganization exercises or M&A activity as required, including any related redundancy exercises
  • Apply ER metrics to gather insights, determine trends and develop proactive strategies to remediate risk within the business
  • Manage the ER case management system to review and track case progress as well as generate reporting for regional stakeholders aligned with Global ER parameters
  • Liaise with HR and ER Operations to ensure that all employee transactions are processed accurately and in a timely fashion
  • Counsel employees and managers regarding work concerns, including performance, personal, or health issues that impact the workplace
  • Interpret, communicate and maintain ER policies and processes
  • Partner with HR Business Partners, Legal and Global Head of ER and Global Head of Investigations as necessary to keep all informed with progress of employee relations activities
  • Provide support and guidance to junior ER and HR team member s
  • Advise and train managers on ER best practices, develops further training as needed to reinforce our values and culture
  • Interface with other HR teams such as Operations, Talent Management, Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition and Analytics and Reporting, as appropriate
  • Manage other ER-related projects as necessary


Required Knowledge/Experience:
  • 10-15+ years proven Employee Relations and/or HR Business Partner with heavy ER experience
  • Demonstrable experience in a HR leadership role working with senior business leaders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical skills with a strong knowledge of problems solving, root cause analysis and associated solution implementation - able to quickly analyze issues and data and determine the right solution
  • Experience interfacing with case management and reporting for ER matters
  • Experience leading and /or project management of ER and HR strategic projects, including reorganization exercises
  • Experience investigating sensitive and complex ER matters
  • Demonstrated expertise building consensus on a cross-functional basis as well as conflict resolution
  • Experience working collaboratively with and influencing business managers
  • Sound knowledge of EMEA employment and labor laws and policies and its pragmatic application
  • Proven ability in successfully operating in a matrix (geographic / functional) work environment.
  • Given the development of our business, Technology or Financial Services work is helpful
  • Ability to work in partnership with regional and global stakeholders, within the HR function and outside; strong influencing and business partnership skills.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Candidate must have the executive presence to represent the EMEA HR function in internal and external leadership forums.
