As one of our in-house data science experts, you will lead our Retail & Savings data science projects and collaborate with colleagues across the business to assist in the management of a £170bn wealth management portfolio. Are you keen to make a direct impact to the top and bottom line of the business through direct implementation of your ideas, theories, and models from start to finish? We are seeking a "lead data scientist" with exceptional planning, stakeholder management, domain knowledge and implementation track record to help us make data active in the organisation to create better wealth outcomes for customers and advisers in the UK.

In this role you will:
  • Driving Innovation: use your research skills to creatively solve the most impactful business problems with the appropriate tools and technology.
  • Deploying solutions: use your experience in delivering machine learning systems to ensure that new insights are turned into real business value.
  • Leveraging your expertise: as a lead data scientist you'll support, train and collaborate with both the wider data science team and non-technical stakeholders, develop predictive models and work on analytical assignments and develop new models to link to adviser and customer channels including marketing and distribution
  • Influencing our strategy across the entire customer lifecycle from marketing through to distribution and advice.
  • Creating world class data science capability. Help coach and develop colleagues in various departments on data science tools and techniques
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to ensure analysis and models can be implemented seamlessly without deterioration to customer experience or complex IT builds

Key Work Level Accountabilities:
  • Accountable for the development and implementation of the Advanced Analytics and Cloud Data Platform strategy in context of the broader market, including MLOps, AI and ML at scale with technology linking data to direct experiences for customers and advisers
  • Establish clear plans and implementation milestones that relate to clear client outcomes in line with business strategy objectives - the client outcomes will be revenue growth, cost base reduction, satisfaction outcomes and lead conversion uplift amongst other possible use case outcomes
  • Works within established frameworks and procedures, with the freedom to interpret them to solve a range of problems
  • Delivers outputs that are clearly defined, using discretion over how to achieve them
  • Makes suggestions for improvements to the work of the data science team, based on previous experience and knowledge of similar situations
  • Utilises network and market wide understand to enable M&G to position competitive advantage.

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Machine Learning e.g., expertise in ML algorithms/technology/pipeline engineering and good at programming language e.g., fluency in Python (linting, unit tests, integration tests, git flow/pull request process, object-oriented development, data validation, data structures, technical troubleshooting and debugging)
  • Extensive experience building statistical models in Python and extracting/manipulating data in SQL. Experience working on analytical projects
  • Experience of the end-to-end ML process including solution design through to deployment and measurement.
  • Able to measure performance and create visualisations to show performance
  • Understanding of the data engineering in order to create datasets from multiple sources
  • Able to work autonomously and to display strong judgement and proactivity.
  • Commercial acumen and a robust understanding of the economics underpinning ML and AI models to create value outcomes for the business.
  • Experience in consulting, startups or other fast paced environments is beneficial
  • Experience with some of our data stack would be beneficial but this is not a requirement. We use Databricks and Azure ADF, Python. Kubernetes cluster, hosted in Azure.
  • Significant experience with wealth management within Financial Markets creating customer and adviser experience outcomes would be beneficial
