About this role:

Sustainability leads the development of strategic initiatives and corporate commitments on sustainability, monitors critical environmental and social issues on behalf of the company, produces ESG-related disclosures and reports and enhances Wells Fargo's reputation as a leader in Sustainability.

The role of the International Sustainability Integration Leader covers Wells Fargo's activities outside the U.S. with particular focus on EMEA and APAC. It will provide strategic leadership for integrating Sustainability across International, be the sponsor and coordinator of these efforts with delegated responsibilities for the implementation from the International Executive Committee. These responsibilities include associated management reporting and stakeholder management, as well as supporting the Sustainable Leaders in the Lines of Business and be complimentary to their effort.

The role holder will partner with line of business client leaders, support function leaders and group & enterprise leaders to advance engagement on change management topics related to sustainable finance. The role will be a key participant of the ESG aspects of business execution change, regulatory change, and inputting into business strategies. This role remains distinct from client coverage which is a Line of Business responsibility.

Sustainability forms part of the Wells Fargo commitments to climate change, and with a progressive international sustainability landscape this role will support International senior management as well as Enterprise as the requirements of Sustainability evolves globally.

In this role, you will:
  • Provide sponsorship of strategic leadership for integrating sustainability across international and in coordinating sustainability/ ESG change and development across the platform.
  • Partner with line of business client leaders, support functions leaders and group & enterprise leaders to advance engagement on change management topics related to sustainable finance.
  • Partner with respective team in respect of related Sustainable Finance for business execution change, regulatory change, inputting into business strategies and representing/ advocating for International at group and enterprise.
  • The role will include taking first line Executive level responsibility of critical risk management initiatives and programmes arising from evolution of the strategy, significant regulatory change or having heightened regulatory engagement.
  • Ensure that location and regional specific initiatives that are relevant to other parts of the International platform are appropriately linked, with the objective of achieving risk management consistency across locations, regions and business lines
  • Coordinate a hybrid team - leveraging SMEs in each working group, whilst monitoring volume of activity as resource requirements.
  • Act as a senior leader across International, supporting SMFs with sustainability responsibility, as a certified person
  • Be a representative of the sustainability program at International, regional and legal entity level committees and governance fora as necessary
  • Provide leadership and execution support to the Change programs teams
  • Develop an execution plan for sustainable change management including regulatory, LOB, enterprise and growth activities working with the respective teams
  • Work closely with the Enterprise Sustainable Finance & Advisory groups and climate groups in the US as the International key point of contact and providing support as required
  • Develop relationships with regulatory bodies and other third-party bodies in the sustainable finance space as necessary to advocate and support business change programs
  • Develop a network across the LOBs to enable and foster communications and deliver business change
  • Take an active role in developing team members and broader team knowledge
  • Develop sustainable activity supporting growth for LoBs including:
    • reporting against the Wells Fargo Sustainable taxonomy
    • transition planning and strategies as required
  • Lead and manage a team responsible for initiatives and achieve objectives
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure commitments are met and align with strategic objectives
  • Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy
Skills and requirements:

The candidate will have significant experience in Sustainable Finance or academia and will come with a commercial mindset. The successful candidate will be expected to work alongside specialists and client coverage groups as well as have the ability to drive a change management program.
  • Extensive knowledge of sustainability in financial services
  • In-depth understanding of business change management leadership
  • Considered an expert and thought leader in ESG, with the ability to engage team members on the importance of sustainable finance
  • An accomplished and high impact leader with significant experience in financial services and of operating at MD/ Executive level.
  • Excellent presentation skills, experience providing strategic messaging to Executive Leadership and Boards.
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder and communication skills; can distil and articulate complexity with ease.
  • Able to effectively navigate ambiguity and manage priorities.
  • Skilled written and verbal communicator and influencer providing strategic counsel to senior management
  • Ability to think laterally in order to assess and analyse challenges facing both internal and external clients
  • Willingness to take on significant responsibility
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to find solutions to complex problems
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and within deadlines.
