Job Purpose Statement

The Corporate Taxation team is based in the UK, as part of Columbia Threadneedle Investments (CTI) and is responsible for Corporation Tax, VAT and Tax Reporting across EMEA and APAC. As a result of the acquisition of the asset management arm of Bank of Montreal in November 2021 the Corporate Taxation team was created to support both the existing and newly acquired business.
CTI is owned by Ameriprise Financial Inc ('Ameriprise') and the Corporate Taxation team reports into and works closely with the Ameriprise tax team who report to the Ameriprise Chief Financial Officer. As part of the overarching risk management framework, the Corporate Taxation team works closely with the business and is informed and consulted on business changes, in order to proactively identify tax risks and to ensure that the level of risk is well understood and within acceptable parameters.
Columbia Threadneedle Investments EMEA/APAC region comprises a significant London and Luxembourg presence, with an expanding presence globally.
You will be part of a 10-person tax team primarily based in Edinburgh but will have significant interaction with London and Swindon colleagues and therefore there will be ad hoc travel to London/Swindon expected.
In this role you will be the lead on providing an efficient and robust tax provisioning process for reporting the EMEA and APAC results to the US parent and locally for individual statutory entities.
You will work closely with the Head of Tax provisioning based in the US and also the local Finance team based in Swindon, as well as being the point of contact with the auditors.
Ideally you have previous experience working within the Asset Management industry and have a good understanding of Tax provisioning in a multi-jurisdictional tax reporting regime with multiple statutory requirements.
You will have an opportunity to be involved in various tax projects and gain greater exposure to wider international tax issues.
This role reports directly into the Head of Corporate Taxes EMEA and APAC. There is one direct report into this role and one dotted line, in order to support Tax provisioning
This role will also provide cover and support where necessary on UK tax compliance matters, working closely with the UK Tax Compliance Senior Manager

Role Responsibilities

How you'll spend your time...
• Manage the monthly tax provisioning process for reporting Group results to the US
• Manage the year end Tax provisioning process that drives the tax entries for the individual entities within EMEA and APAC
• Review of accounting provision information for accounting and reporting purposes, including calculation of any US GAAP adjustments.
• Review of tax note disclosures for all EMEA and APAC entities in the group, as well as the consolidated group tax note disclosures for the Statutory Accounts.
• Act as a touchpoint for the broader finance team ensuring that the tax position is accurately recorded in the accounts of the EMEA entities.
• Maximise efficiencies in the monthly and year end Tax provisioning processes using the Longview Tax provisioning tool
• Ensure CT and DT tax reconciliations are produced accurately and on a monthly basis with any differences being reported to the Head of Corporate Taxes on a timely basis
• Prepare management information for the parent company, including ETR analysis and analysis of trends.
• Calculation of quarterly tax instalment payments for the UK and APAC entities in the group.
• Liaison with internal/external auditors as required.
Draft the company's Tax Strategy and push through the sign off processes ensuring publication on the website
• Support Controllership and the Head of Tax on the SAO process and Tax sign off
• Participate and lead on ad hoc tax or business led projects as required by the wider tax team
• Proactively identify tax risks for the business and work with advisors and stakeholders to ensure changes in tax law and regulations are complied with.
• Support key business initiatives, communicate financial impact of taxes in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Assist with the tax compliance of the UK and APAC entities in the group, as required for example tax returns, payments
• Corporate Interest restriction
• Support Organizational, Operational and Business Risk Compliance as the Income Tax Accounting subject matter experts

Key Capabilities

To be successful in this role you will have...
• Tax professional with extensive relevant experience.
• Accounting or tax qualification, with experience in Tax accounting at individual and Group level. Background in UK Tax Compliance helpful.
• Experience of Workday and Longview systems preferable.
• Confidence to communicate effectively and build relationships with colleagues, advisors, and auditors.
• The ability to operate independently in a fast-paced working environment, work closely and proactively within the tax team and numerous functional teams across the organisation.
• An interest in developing expertise in all tax related matters applying across the UK and other jurisdictions in which the business operates.
