Are you an experienced corporate sustainability or ESG project management professional seeking a new role within the real estate/private equity sector?

Our client manages a broad range of investments acquired by one of the largest private equity groups. The varied asset mix includes direct real estate (office, retail, logistics and industrial, hospitality, life sciences and innovation, student accommodation and multifamily etc.), unsecured loans, residential and commercial loans (performing and non-performing) etc. and is located across Europe. The business invests in Core Plus real estate investment opportunities across Europe on behalf of the private equity firm's affiliated insurance balance sheets evergreen capital sources that target attractive core plus returns, typically between 8%-12% IRR. The fund currently manages €2.3bn of AUM and is targeting a capital deployment of €5-6bn by 2026 across its identified high conviction investment sectors office, logistics and Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA).

Purpose:

Our client is seeking a commercially minded individual to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, primarily to assist real estate asset managers and operators to better understand and develop solutions to respond to the complex and evolving policy, regulatory, and business environment risks and opportunities associated with ESG. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive ESG technical advice to the asset management teams and oversee the operational integration of ESG processes into the Company's management platform. The individual must be able to implement ESG-related portfolio analysis and benchmark sustainability services, and support investment and transaction processes as an expert in ESG criteria.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the development, benchmarking, implementation and review of appropriate sustainability objectives, business models, targets, and improvement programmes for property portfolios
  • Ensure alignment with emissions targets
  • Respond to requests for information regarding any portfolio's ESG performance, from rating and reporting agencies, current or prospective investors and other stakeholders
  • Benchmarking analyses, complete ESG checklists, ongoing monitoring of decarbonisation pathways, and report on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
  • Lead development of decarbonisation action plans for assets and build roadmap required to track, integrate, and report for investments
  • Working with advisors to provide ESG advice across the whole property life cycle, as needed
  • Work with an in-house legal team and external counsel to monitor changes in legislation and best practice to ensure continuing legal compliance and best practice in the UK
  • Collaborating with investment teams on sustainability theses for investments, identifying opportunities to improve ESG efforts, and deliver against business plans
  • Supporting investment teams in completing ESG due diligence
  • Control assistance with internal and external audit processes in the context of sustainability
  • Leading on SFDR article 8 transformations
  • Training and raising awareness to Group employees on ESG implementation in all business processes


Experience:
  • Corporate sustainability/ESG project management and reporting, or general management consulting on ESG
  • Developing and implementing sustainability strategies, preferably within the real estate/private equity sector
  • Leading ESG reporting and regulatory initiatives e.g. TCFD, SFDR, UN Principles for Responsible Investment
  • Implementation and testing of compliance with regulatory requirements


Skills and Qualifications:
  • Technical or business-related degree
  • Relevant ESG/sustainability course
  • Excellent understanding of sustainability approaches, frameworks, and reporting
  • Future-oriented, strategic thinking and interested in the latest industry and market trends in ESG and technology
  • Commercial and entrepreneurial thinking, initiative, and decision-making capabilities
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Fluent in spoken and written English language (other European languages desirable)
  • Ability to foster and maintain collaborative relationships across departments
  • Competent with all Microsoft Office packages
